Looking For A Real Map Of Samui

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a real map pf Samui online anywhere? I've found plenty of really nice tourist maps:

http://www.samui.org/map/samuiflash.html

http://www.travelfish.org/map_detail/thail...ani/ko_samui/62

http://www.samuinet.com/maps.htm

http://www.kohsamui-hotel.com/map/samui-map.htm

http://www.kohsamui-info.com/maps/samui_map.html

http://www.1stopsamui.com/map/

http://www.gothailand.com/samui/indexmaps.htm

http://www.thaiwaysmagazine.com/samui_map/...map_island.html

http://www.samuiroad.com/index.html

http://www.samuicommunity.com/ComMap/map_info_finale.htm

http://www.kohsamui.org/map.html

But I'm looking for something more detailed, like a street map. Google Earth would have been perfect but it and other satellite map sites have only a cloudy, low resolution image of Samui. I'm just really into maps (can't even seem to throw them away) and like to study a place a little before arriving so I have a better idea of where the heck I am while there.

most hotels have them in holders in samui, pick yourself up one, there free to take
There is no actual real map of Koh samui, if you are after an A-Z type map

With the maps you've listed you should NOT get lost, since the Middle of the Island is mountains, with few dirt roads. Christ, op, what do you want, a guide can be had for a few baht more.

The best geographic map i found was the Samui Green Map wich shows all the smaller roads very accurately. Also it has very good mountain altitude shading, though no height lines. It even has xy-coordinate information on the sides (Thai grid system).

It was distributed to many "green class Hotels" some years ago: www.greensamui.com (cannot be found now)

Tourist maps don't usually give a lot of detail. So it's good to know that there isn't really much more detail anyway.

Each to his own :o

Koheesti, you could try the Saim Map Company who are Samui based. Mainly commercial maps with adverts but im sure they will have detailed maps also. If anyone has reproduced the Green Map, I would bet its them.

Very useful link, thanx!

Omnimap sells what seems to be fairly detailed maps of Samui, hard to tell from the sample : This is the sample image for Samui

Also, be sure to use the word topographical when searching, if you are interested in the geologic features, as that is a more accurate word than geographic.

SamuiJens, some people are into maps, doesn't mean they are afraid of getting lost, just that they collect them.

Samui Green map was probably produced by the Dept. of Environmental Quality Protection. On their website www.deqp.go.th you can play around with an interactive GIS package to create your own map, but Samui is not presented that well on it. In thai only.

I don't collect them like coins or stamps. When I get them in my travels it doesn't seem right throwing them away. Maybe because when I was growing up my room had maps all over the wall. Anyway, it's best to save any psycho-babble for where it belongs - happy hour. But to answer your question, maybe 20 from various cities across Europe as well as Tokyo and Guam.

I found a pretty good map of Samui from Chez Andy:

Are there any out there with at least street names? I'm not worried, just curious. I'm in the middle of a flat hunt and it would obviously be helpful.

When you get here, or others reading this, there is money to be had if you map out samui, and sell it, A_Z map$$$$$. No spam, just a good idea koheesti would be your 1st customer! Lood luck, I'd buy one myself, at a reasonable price!
