A job for the "Bashing Aunties"?! Feud between neighbors sparks debate

A job for the "Bashing Aunties"?! Feud between neighbors sparks debate

Thais were debating the issue of whether people have the right to park in front of someone's front gate.

One person had put a sign up asking neighbors not to block their drive.

But the response from a neighbor who frequently does just that was unusual.

They put their own sign up saying it was public space and they could park where they liked.

They even demanded that notes stop being put on their car requesting them to move.

Lawyer Kertphon Kaewkert said that such behavior fell foul of public annoyance legislation.

The people parking there could be fined 5,000 baht.

Some online suggested tongue in cheek that the disgruntled neighbor should call in the "bashing aunties".

These were two women who took the law into their hands earlier in the year and used an axe to damage a pick-up parked in front of their mansion.

The case received widespread attention in Thailand.

It's all fun and games until one of the neighbors starts shooting!

Seems to me their should be a right of way agreement somewhere in the books here. If someone blocked my entrance keeping me from earning my living chances are they would find a flat tire when they wake up. And me... tongue in cheek... denying any wrongdoing.

You can buy these garage door posters on line.

A sign on the gate saying 'on 24 hour stand-by' might work in conjunction.

Surely there's something written into the law where you can't park in front of someone's driveway. There should also be common sense not to do it. Saying that - on my old soi, people who were too lazy to walk a few steps to the restaurant at the beginning of the soi, would park their car right on the corner of where you turn in. Would cause so many problems for people wanting to turn into the soi.

Is it selfishness or is it a complete lack of awareness? I think the two traits aren't actually that different.

You shouldn't be parking outside someone's gate. But those shop owners who believe they own all the pavement and roadside parking outside their shop front are cheeky buggers.

Similar sort of thing when Thais enter a building, or your home, and just kick off their shoes/flip flops leaving a big pile of them blocking the doorway. Selfishness or lack of awareness or laziness? A bit of each I think.

Absolutely no thoughts for anyone apart from 'me' is a very common trait.

Does common sense exists here?

Parking in front of a shop on the road, public space, blocking a driveway is blocking an accessway. She may believe she can just stop in the middle of the road and park there as it is also public space, but she would be wrong.

This makes way too much sense.

The Thai way or the Hi way...

Common sense does not apply in Thailand !

My car has been scratched; I have had a nail in a piece of wood inserted under a tire.  All because I dared park in front of someone's business on a public highway.  Then there are the chairs & other obstructions placed in front of businesses to 'reserve' a place for possible customers.

When the neighbourhood forms a speed bump removal team, using all sorts of hammers, because they want to speed down a dead-end soi it is doubtful parking rules mean much of anything.

I wasn't sure what was happening until a Thai friend told me. It was hard hot work and they only removed half of each speed bump, so now they speed and swerve.

????

Thai teachers undoing the good work of air conditioners by opening doors and windows are my pet peeves ATM. Switching off the aircon? Okay! Opening the door and windows? Why?!??
