The downtown of Nakhon Si Thammarat was under water on Wednesday after the southern province was hit by overnight heavy rains.

Several areas in the heart of Muang district were flooded as thevolume of rain overwhelmed the drainage system.

The flooded areas included Karome Road, Srithammasoke Road and Pattanakan Khu Kwang Road.

Officials said the rains were measured at about 100 millimetres.

People living near mountains, rivers and canals were advised to be on alert for possible run-off.
