Trump Map Extends US Flag Over Canada, Greenland, Mexico

Featured Replies

President Donald Trump posted a map on Monday morning showing an American flag pattern spread across much of North America, along with Greenland, Iceland and islands in the Caribbean. The post adds to a series of remarks and claims in which he has argued for expanding US control beyond existing borders.

Map Shows flag Over US, Canada And Mexico

The map displayed the American flag motif superimposed over the United States, Canada and Mexico, and extended over part of Central America. It also placed Greenland and Iceland under the same design, while covering Caribbean islands including Cuba and Jamaica.

Trump has previously pushed for the US to take over Canada and Greenland, and has also referenced ambitions relating to the Panama Canal.

Inclusion Of Mexico And Caribbean Islands Is New

While earlier comments and posts focused on Canada, Greenland and the canal, the latest map brings Mexico and some Caribbean islands into the territorial picture. The post therefore broadens the set of places depicted in his stated ambitions, beyond those mentioned in earlier pushes.

The move follows a period of heightened political activity in which Trump has repeatedly used public messaging to draw attention to his views on territorial control.

Canada Trade Dispute Adds Context

The map comes as the US faces tensions with Canada over trade. In the past month, Washington and Ottawa have imposed tariffs on each other’s goods, escalating a dispute between the two countries.

During this period, Trump also signed an executive order to rename Lake Ontario, which shares a name with a Canadian province, as “Lake America”.

Earlier Post Targeted “Mexico” In New Mexico

On Sunday, Trump posted another map, this time depicting the US state of New Mexico as “New America”. The earlier post followed the spread of an online hoax that had already been debunked, which claimed Trump had signed an executive order changing the state’s name.

In that image, posted on Truth Social, a large “X” appeared over the word “Mexico” in the state’s name, with “America” shown underneath. The White House’s official account later reposted the same image on the social platform X.

Trump’s Monday map and the Sunday “New Mexico” post both reflect his continued use of symbolic imagery in social media messaging, alongside related official actions and statements that have been described as part of wider efforts to pursue territorial changes.

Iceland Summons US Ambassador Over Trump Map

Reykjavk_qkCyEvEWO.jpeg

Iceland. File photo

Iceland summoned the United States ambassador on Monday after President Donald Trump posted a social media image depicting Iceland and other territories covered by the American flag, local broadcaster RUV reported.

The post appeared on Trump’s Truth Social account without any accompanying explanation. RUV said the map showed the United States, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean under the U.S. flag, with the full landmass labelled “United States of America”.

Foreign Minister Calls In Ambassador

Iceland’s Foreign Minister, Thorgerdur Gunnarsdottir, summoned Billy Long, the U.S. ambassador to Iceland, RUV reported. Long only formally took up the role last month.

The foreign ministry told RUV that the message was expressed as being completely inappropriate.

RUV reported that the U.S. State Department, the U.S. embassies in Copenhagen and Reykjavik, and the U.S. consulate in Nuuk did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Iceland’s foreign ministry also did not respond to a request for comment.

Greenland Dispute Underlines Broader Tensions

In recent years, Trump has repeatedly argued that the United States should acquire Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory. Those assertions have contributed to tensions between Washington and Copenhagen, both founding members of NATO, and across Europe.

Last month, Iceland voted against reopening EU membership talks in a referendum. Trump’s designs on Greenland were cited as part of the backdrop to the vote.

Some supporters of restarting negotiations said concerns about U.S. reliability were a factor in considering closer ties with the EU. Analysts quoted in the referendum coverage said domestic economic concerns were ultimately the main driver of the result.

European Commission Invests After The Post

Trump’s map post came hours after the European Commission announced a €200 million investment in Greenland. The funding was announced during a visit by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, speaking to Danish news agency Ritzau in Nuuk, said the message from Greenland’s government and the people had been consistent. She said the Greenlandic government and people had again and again stated that they do not want Greenland to become American, and that she hoped there was no doubt about it in the United States or elsewhere.

"Plays them like a fiddle" for what purpose?

Will his post bring gas prices down?

End the war he started in Iran?

Help erase the $40,000,000,000,000 debt?

Help the Repubs in the midterms?

And what did Iceland ever do to deserve being the target of Trump's demented lunacy?

It never ceases to amaze how the cult turns Trump's obvious insanity into some sort of troll. Trump is simply batsh!t crazy. Sane people see that. MAGAs, sniffing the vapors from Trump's flatulence, do not.

You may as well just remove the 25th amendment. If his actions over the last few weeks don't absolutely cement its implementation, nothing ever will.

Every word in my post was proven correct by you.

From the bottom of my heart, a sincere thank you

Funny how Carney was happy for Britain to be a vassal state of the EU but is suddenly a dyed in the wool nationalist when it comes to Canada.

What a hypocritical tool.

Hopefully the Canadians wise up sooner rather than later and elect a decent PM for once.

Greenland Dispute Underlines Broader Tensions

There is no "dispute" about Greenland. It was, and continues to be, a territory of Denmark, and Trump's desire to annex it against the will of its population doesn't change that one iota. If you have a nice car and I say I think it should be mine, that isn't a "dispute", it's just me being a dick.

I see that you are are indulging in your favourite pastime again, Jonny; namely attempting to redefine the lexicon.

"vassal state

noun : a state with varying degrees of independence in its internal affairs but dominated by another state in its foreign affairs and potentially wholly subject to the dominating state" (Source: Merriam Webster)

The EU is not a state. It is a bloc comprised of independent nations, each of whom have input into its' development. Therefore, none of the existing 27 states - nor the UK when it was a member - are vassal states of the EU.

Carney was Bank of England governor. In that capacity, he understood the benefit of the UK being a member of the EU and was vocal in his support of it.

I don't know for sure but given Carney's view of the EU, I assume that he is supportive of Canada's membership of USMCA; an agreement that Trump seems determined to rip up.

Where's the hypocrisy on Carney's part?

I never said the EU was a state. I said Britain was a vassal state of the EU.

As one of 27 member states we were already essentially dominated in the bloc. Every decade it got worse as they move towards a single federal state. The only real power we had was a veto which they are actively trying to remove and are already working around. The direction of travel was clear.

The USMCA is a free trade agreement. Totally different to being a member of political and economic "partnership" like the EU. I have no issue with Britain having a free trade agreement with the EU. But I do not want us to be one of 28 EU member states, just as Carney doesn't want Canada to be one of 51 US states.

Carney should have kept his nose out of it. He's not even British. Changes his nationality and principles with the wind. No morals. Actually, now I see why you're a fan.

Still not clear how decissions are made in the EU ? In the EU Council, consisting of the leaders of government of the EU ,ember states, so inclusive the prime minister of the UK.

Why the EU would give benefits to the UK, when the UK also would not join in the contributions ?

The commission holds the power.

Multiple layers of separation from the votes of citizens of EU countries (by design).

Benefits? 😄

The UK was a massive net contributor. Propping up the basket cases like Greece/Hungary/Poland. Thank goodness we left.
