BANGKOK, 21 November 2018 (NNT) - The Thai government has pledged to upgrade its relations with South Africa in every dimension.

Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha welcomed South African Ambassador to Thailand, HE Geoffrey Quinton Mitchell Doidge, to his post on behalf of the Thai Kingdom. He pledged to support the work of the South African embassy, while also lauding the achievements of former South African President Nelson Mandela, calling him a role model for the entire world.

The premier underlined that Thailand and South Africa are celebrating 25 years of relations this year and stated his government will be organizing seminars on investment in the country.

Both voiced confidence that relations between Thailand and South Africa can be upgraded further even though South Africa is already Thailand’s number one trade partner in Africa and Thailand is South Africa’s number one trade partner in ASEAN.

Gen Prayut invited South African investors to Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor, pointing especially to the national defense industry as Thailand hopes to become a regional hub for aircraft maintenance.
