Beware fake 1,000 baht notes - shopkeeper tells her story

The owner of a mini mart on Petchkasem Road in Klong Tom district told Sanook what happened on Wednesday when a man came in to buy two bottles of alcohol.

He tried to pay with a 1,000 baht note that Somsri, 44, spotted immediately as an obvious forgery.

It looked more like a photocopy.

She pointed this out to the man - about 170 cms tall wearing a long sleeve yellow shirt - who immediately produced another 1,000 baht note, got his change, glanced up at the CCTV camera and left in a hurry.

The police have been informed.

A picture of the fake note was shown on Sanook. It had been written on by the shopkeeper and contained the word "plorm" or fake written four times.

I'm more wary of fake police, fake army and city officials, fake medicines, fake certificates fake stamps, fake alcohol and food and the list goes on and on and on....

So she points out to the customer, that the bill is fake, then he gives her another, and she accepts it?

There was a story a while back when a 'fake T shirt' vendor got really pi...ed off when he discovered he'd been paid with a counterfeit note. 5555.

An off topic comment and one reply have been removed.

The only place i could get a fake 1k note is from the atm since there are nothing larger than 1k the risk of getting one by accident could only come from a bank, fake 500s would be a lot more problematic

I've had worse than that and got rid of them.

Why would she not accept a genuine note?

Why wouldn't you be able to "get rid of" genuine notes?

If he'd contended it was a real note, why did he leave it with her as evidence? Surely he'd demand it back if giving her a second note...
