Tax discounts help boost grassroots economy: Revenue Dept

Tanakorn Sangiam

BANGKOK, 1 December 2018 (NNT) - The Revenue Department (RD) reassured the tax discount scheme with purchases of eligible items will be beneficial to farmers and local communities.

RD Director-General Ekniti Nitithanprapas said the Shop for the County scheme is aimed to encourage purchases of items which will help distribute incomes to farmers suffering from the low prices of their products.

Individual persons can use the money paid for purchases of eligible items from 15 December 2018 - 16 January 2019 to deduct their personal income tax. Purchases made after 31 December 2018 will be counted for the next tax year. The total deductible amount is capped at 15,000 baht.

Eligible items for this year's scheme include tires for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, components of which have been manufactured from raw materials supplied by the Rubber Authority of Thailand, books and e-books excluding magazines and newspaper, and OTOP goods. A tax invoice must be obtained for every purchase in order to be eligible.

The RD chief added such campaign will help increase the incomes for rubber tree growers and local communities, promoting the development of local products, and raise the quality of human resources through reading.

More troubles for retailers as they need to hire extra staffs to process the tax invoice. Good idea but bad implementation. Some shops can't process on the spot, long queues and lots of time wasted for tax invoice.

So did the first car buyers scheme, only the wealthy benefit from this stupidity

A lot of grassroots don't pay income tax.
