Prayut pro-junta party’s top PM choice

THE PRO-JUNTA Palang Pracharat Party “will most definitely” nominate General Prayut Chan-o-cha as its first prime ministerial candidate for the next election, a key party figure said yesterday.

 

Science and Technology Minister Suvit Maesincee, in his capacity as deputy leader of Palang Pracharat, also said the party will soon hold a detailed discussion on who should be its three PM candidates. 

 

The law requires each political party to nominate no more than three candidates for the country’s top post before contesting in the general elections. 

 

However, another key party figure, Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong, said “it’s still not time” for Palang Pracharat to choose its PM candidate.

 

When asked if Prayut will run for his second term as premier, Palang Pracharat’s secretary-general Sontirat said it will be decided later through the party’s decision-making process.

 

Sontirat and other senior party figures, including Suriya Juengrungruangkit, were in Khon Kaen yesterday to meet with more than 70 party members who are former MPs in the Northeast. The meeting discussed Palang Pracharat’s standpoints and platforms.

The party’s senior figures also met with local residents to hear their problems and requests.

 

Sontirat said he was confident his party would get “substantial support” from voters in the Northeast. “So, we hope to become a core party that can form the next government, which is the party’s goal,” he said.

 

Palang Pracharat is viewed as connected to the post-coup government led by General Prayut, though it has drawn many former MPs and veteran politicians from other parties. 

 

Meanwhile, the prime minister dismissed claims that his post-coup government aims to retain its power through the 20-year national strategy, adding that the strategy is purely for the country’s benefit. 

 

Prayut, who also heads the ruling National Council for Peace and Order, also denied that his government was trying to woo voters by giving handouts to the poor, pointing out that Thailand has more than 14.7 million people who earn less than Bt100,000 per year and need help from the state. 

 

He was speaking at a seminar organised by the Chamber Commerce of Thailand at the Bitec exhibition centre.

 

Separately, most eligible voters said they will vote for their favourite MPs even though they have defected to other parties, according to Suan Dusit Poll.

 

Of the 1,180 respondents, 54.1 per cent said their favourite MP will not lose their vote because they had changed their allegiance due to personal reasons. The remaining 45.9 per cent said they will not vote for the defectors because they were not firm with their ideology. 

 

The survey was conducted from Wednesday to Saturday.

That is why, despite a physical resemblance to the back end of a particularly dilapidated London Bus, I am occasionally hailed by young ladies as I pass bars as " handsome"!

Why use French on a Thai expat forum?

Yes, education is at an all time low.  Working expats are avoiding Thailand.   The average Thai is still struggling.  The knee jerk responses of opening the borders and waving visa fees was sheer for a top dog in a dog and pony show. 

 

The country is on the right track for the elites.  You won't get much in the way accolades on this forum for cheering on the elites, who get showered with cash.  My favorite elitist ritual is the opening a new "Cambodian" casino on the boarder.  Prayut is a good choice if you want to suck the fun out of Thailand and sterilize its culture.  

 

Please tell us what this right track looks like ?

Bit unfair to judge a book by its cover. As it happens, Dr Suvit has several weighty tomes to his credit, plus an academic and educational and career c.v. which puts him head and shoulders above the intellectual pygmies currently running the country.

 

His grasp of international business affairs and politics is vividly demonstrated in a presentation he gave in 2010 to the Sasin Institute for Global Affairs, entitled 'Thailand In The New Global Landscape'. Well worth a look.

But this guy is still a major supporter of the junta - which disqualifies him in my book from any kind of respect or admiration. I don't care what his academic credentials (or past writings) show: what he is doing NOW is what matters to Thais who are living and suffering NOW - and this fat blob is supporting Dinosaurship (you know what I mean - but the silly rules here make verbal camouflage a necessity). 

 

If he, an 'educated' and 'intelligent' man, was formerly against military Dinosaurship (probably against Thaksin only - that article you referenced comes from 2010)) and now actively supports and canvasses for Dinosaurship - he is even worse than those who have always been dumb supporters of the dinosaurs.

 

Beneath contempt, in my opinion.

 

But - I may be wrong (I doubt it, however) ...!

It's not that "the State" has helped the poor, it is how Prayut and The Toad distributed the money in an elaborate ceremony with them presiding over the event like those who provide all from their personal wealth.

Prayut is a good choice, I would certainly vote for him to keep the country on track.

The quote is a mixture of French and English and it shows that the poster has a degree of education which is often missing on this forum, particularly in my own posts.

It's not that "the State" has helped the poor, it is how Prayut and The Toad distributed the money in an elaborate ceremony with them presiding over the event like those who provide all from their personal wealth. 

Yes, it is a bit like the story in the Bible, when Jesus distributed  a few fish among thousands of poor and hungry followers, although in His case, everyone had their fill, unlike Prayut's gifts where his equivalent of the fish often never reach the people they are intended for and, even when they do, they make very little difference to their lives and they still go hungry.

I love these games. As if anyone had a chance to begin with. Old bloat face isn’t going anywhere.
