Witness interviews resume in Premchai alleged poaching case

The second round of witness interviews and evidence examination in the “black leopard” alleged poaching case against construction tycoon Premchai Karnasuta started on Thursday.

 

Six out of 32 witnesses for the plaintiff, including Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary chief Wichien Chinnawong, have already testified at Thong Pha Phum Provincial Court in Kanchanaburi during the first round of interviews last month.

 

Seub Nakhasathien Foundation said that the remaining witnesses for the plaintiff will be interviewed before the court hears the testimony of 17 witnesses from the defendant side.

 

The next witness interrogation sessions on the plaintiff side will be from next Tuesday to Thursday and then on December 18.

 

The National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department and the official investigation team has charged Italian-Thai Development president Premchai and his three associates, Yong Dodkrua, Thanee Thummat and Nathee Riamsaen, with illegally hunting black leopard and other wild animals inside Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary on this February.

 

Six allegations, including illegally carrying firearms in public, hunting the protected wildlife, and poaching inside the wildlife reserve, were laid against Premchai, while Thanee, Yong, and Nathee are facing eight, seven, and five allegations respectively. 

 

The 17 defendant witnesses are scheduled to testify during six sessions from December 19-21 and December 25-27.

 

Following his request, Premchai will not attend the court until the witness interviews for the plaintiff.

If such charges were brought upon mere mortals, this case and justice would've concluded in a week. 

 

Typical protection and stonewalling of elitist classes.

What else is new.

Nonsense. It says all witnesses will be heard in the coming weeks. So what are you talking about?

Nonsense. There should be a lengthier time in court due to the massive amount of evidence and witnesses the prosecution gathered to nail him to the wall with. And there are also 6 defendants, not 1! And remember the defendant's motion to delay trial has already been denied! And for comparison don't forget those beloved "mushroom pickers" we all admire so much that got busted illegally logging the forest were granted to have their case heard all the way through the supreme court. Those poor mortals sure did get things to drag out.

 

17 witnesses for the defense - who would have any relevant info other than the 4 of them - no one else was present at the scene and I assume all the rangers were witnesses for the prosecution so have been called already?

 

I hope they disclose some more details.

It takes quite awhile to make a gift list, discreetly assemble funds, stuff, address, seal and deliver the envelopes.

There is no jury. Two or more judges adjudicate.

They can kick the can down the road before deciding to come to a "verdict" - it can be a year or so before they make their decision.

 

I predict that Premchai will definitely be found guilty - of not getting a permit to be in the park, dropping litter or something!

Then they will take two years to decide a "sentence". Which will be incredibly derisory. But by that time the "election" will be finished and people will be licking their wounds too much to be bothered.

Seems to work. Thai news is now reporting that he is claiming to not to have even been there. So I guess these pics were Photoshopped! Next he will be suing the panthers closest relatives for slander!
