Anti-graft agency is pondering new wealth declaration announcement

The National Anti-Corruption Commission is considering amending its controversial assets declaration announcement so that officials holding some positions would be exempted from having to declare their wealth and details about their assets would not be made public.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngarm said today that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, in his capacity as the head of the National Council for Peace and Order, would not invoke special power vested upon him by Article 44 of the interim constitution to interfere with the anti-graft agency over the controversial announcement.

Nevertheless, he said the anti-graft agency was trying to resolve the problem and it was possible that a new announcement might be issued to amend the existing one but insisted that the basic principle of good governance must remain intact.

Typical Thais!

Always give up and change the law when the law inconveniences the powerful.

This is why NOBODY takes the banana republic seriously.

who is currently exempt from reporting?  Anybody got a list of big wigs that have reported?  Does any organization actually check the reporting for accuracy?  yeah right.

You know that the law works when some people want to retract or back paddle on it, still, this law if anything, should be made even stronger and many of the cancellers and evaders are using nominees and straw people to hide their undeclared wealth...

Yada Yada Yada ..get a room. Disgusting Shameless Defiant

Declaration Announcement:

Ahh.......MAI PHEN RAI.

As has been the case in the past, we will only find out just how much money has been amassed by ruling generals, high ranking police and local officials when they die and their wives, children and mia noi's fight over the estate.

Still waiting to find out how Prawit makes 5 million a year on a salary of under a million!

once again Thailand declares graft and corruption are fine if you are rich, they have a chance to really stop some of the hi-so corrupt practices but back peddle. Have to wonder why they have accepted these people have suspect financial dealings but will do nothing about it, shows just how corrupt this country really is and that it will never change

NACC knows its place among the Five Rivers.

No amendment of laws is necessary, just a nod from the NCPO.

They know some things need to be strictly kept under the table

I think they should start with a few well known Army Generals, which will never happen..... LOL .......

Pondering , instead of the usual mulling, they must be getting serious.

Somebody's been got at.

Two tier law again... one for the rich & one for the rest !!!

What exactly is the point of this wealth declaration if senior members of the government can ignore it, get found out, brazenly lie and then have it all forgotten?

This announcement shows how serious they are about tackling corruption.  There can surely be only one main reason why certain officials (and a lot of them) are willing to resign instead of having to declare their assets.   What have they got to hide, I wonder?

In order to protect these (probably) corrupt officials, the Government is apparently willing to change the law in their favour.

Nothing new there, then?  They do make it easy to despair of their country ever changing for the better.

The Credit Suisse Wealth Gap reported that Thailand has now overtaken India and Russia for the worst wealth inequality country. That report have not include these undeclared wealth. If included, Thailand may be on the top for many years to come.

I get the feeling it will be entirely voluntary !

One thing is obvious and that is these over-wealthed individuals who are concerned about such a declaration are incompetent fools. Any crook worth his/her salt would by now have their riches structured in such a way that it is nicely hidden from scrutiny and they give all the appearance of being as poor as church mice.

Previous flaunting of their wealth similar to General Rolex is now coming back to bite them. Sack them for being the fools they are.

Tooth decay is painful to the face but when all your teeth fall out you can sit on the graft committee it also helps to be cross eyed????

That's a tragedy.
A fresh start with new elections and now that.
As long as the people can not control their politicians / representatives,
then they will never get a democracy.

He (Prayuth, addressing NLA, following the coup) turned to corruption issue and said “corruption has been deep-rooted in Thai society. The problem needs to be seriously addressed now. In order to see concrete and rapid progress within one year, we need cooperation from all sectors, including the state and private sectors, civil society, and  ordinary people.”

It must be hoped future governments can dismiss any 20 year plans etc as illegitimate acts by a cancelled 'government.'

1932 to be studied in Thai schools.

The hypocrisy and flagrant disregard of any and all morals is truly breathtaking, you think you've heard it all then these cretins manage to surpass themselves yet again, would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.....

Bloody hell!.

It'a bit blatant dontcha think?

But then my IQ is in 3 figures so probably nobody in Thailand will notice...

Will he ever understand what "good governance" is?
