Protesters dressed as gods of death point to a "sinners list" depicting government and military officials responsible for the 2010 crackdown at a Sunday rally at Bangkok’s Democracy Monument.

BANGKOK — The mother of a medic killed by military snipers inside a temple during street protests eight years ago was charged with violating a public gathering law Monday night for staging a rally.

Phayaw Akkahad said Tuesday that police filed a charge of organizing an unauthorized gathering against her by holding the rally to demand justice for her daughter. The crime carries a maximum fine of 10,000 baht. She was arrested at the Democracy Monument with three other protesters – one of whom also lost his son in the 2010 crackdown.

To the elites it makes sense. You will not question you will be silent, while we plunder.

And there in a few words you can find this countries obvious problem. There appears to be no doubt that a medic, inside a temple grounds, was killed by military snipers. Its clearly stated. But its her mother who ends up being arrested for staging a peaceful rally. This clearly describes Thailands attitude to the peoples problems.

It‘s quite easy to understand - the corrupt police supports the corrupt armed forces who staged an illegal coup to take over the country illegally and then pardon themselves for all the crimes they committed - the corrupt judiciary lets them get away with it - the victims parents who dare to protest are arrested - not the officers in charge and responsible for the killings of unarmed civilians.

The corrupt union of state legislature and executive has to keep the peasants in check by any means -

First - with the threat of “legal” action which only applies to the peasants but not to the “above the law” elite who can commit crimes and stage or organize any protest they want without being held accountable or arrested and charged by the corrupt police.

Secondly - If the peasants should get organized because they had enough of all I mentioned above - which happens every decade or so - the armed forces shoot them dead and get away with it using lethal force against the peasants to intimidate them and let them know who really owns this country.

In fact most of all the combat the Thai armed forces have done in the last 30 years is killing their own unarmed civilians - very convenient - because they don’t shoot back at them - and they don’t even shoot them always - sometimes they suffocate them after they are handcuffed by stacking them on military trucks- which sends the peasants the message that we can kill you any way we want without being held accountable.

If the armed forces here should encounter other armed forces who actually fight back they do not fare so well as many of us witnessed during the Baan Rom Klao disaster in 1987 which was the last major armed conflict with other troops where barefoot Laotian soldiers drove them back from hill 1428 and the glorious air force dropped bombs on their own soldiers.

And guess what the real reason was for the “border conflict” - money of course - corruption and disagreements over payments from illegal logging carried out by the Thai army in the area - and the Thai people where told the army defends their borders!

So to put it simple - how dare the peasants protest the murder of their children - and for the foreseeable future we will still see the corrupt arresting and prosecuting innocent parents protesting the killing of their children and the guilty “elite” get away with their crimes - business as usual - nothing new here.

Sounds remarkably similar to the October revolution  that started in St Petersburg. When the russian Cavalry charged peasants who were rioting outside the Palace. Starting the Russian revolution??????

Thailand continues to shame itself round the world.

Demanding justice in Thailand is against the law. Only in Thailand.

I can understand the military protecting the soldiers if they had been given an order to shoot.  That happens.

It seems strange though that for the cost of 10,000 they would not just pay it and admit o personal guilt.

The other point is that the military and police are actually giving her what she wants.  A chance to voice her concerns in public with the press all over it.

It will be interesting to see.  Might have been better just to let her protest and make nothing of it.

The junta and the police are not exactly renowned for being smart and clever. They are more notably for being above the law and corrupt.

And people wonder why Americans are reluctant to give up their guns. The government should always have a healthy fear of those they rule over.

It makes a great deal of sense, Somtamnication. Look at it from the point of the junta, those named by the protestors. Largely due to the efforts of this extraordinarily brave and determined lady the murder of her daughter has not been forgotten, she has not been confined to the list of those who (to believe some of the more shameful posts here) brought it upon themselves! As long as this murder remains in the public consciousness, then those responsible will always be looking over their shoulders. They want to silence her. They have to silence her to create as part of their drive for legitimacy. They will try the only way they know, threats  and bullying.

She may not get justice (I very much hope that she does, but I doubt she will), but at least she is ensuring that her daughter is not forgotten. All power to her.

What a timely wake-up call for any Thais tempted to vote the current lot back in on the strength of  their reputation for keeping "law and order" in the country.

If this is how they interpret and apply the law, almost any alternative is preferable.

Not bright enough to shut their collective cake-holes, always engaging mouth before brain (a limited resource anyway).

There are lots of guns in civilian hands in Thailand.  They haven't stopped the coups.

Were you here in 2014?  When the soldiers and armored vehicles showed up on the streets, all civilian guns were quickly put away.  That's because the military, incompetent though it may be, has overwhelmingly greater firepower than the civilians.

Outrageous. Bloody outrageous. A military without honour. A government without pride. A country without a chance. Let's just hope that Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch pick up on this story - they might not be able to shame the buffoons who run this country, but at least it will keep the spotlight on them.

Thank you for this excellent, all encompassing explanation.
