The alleged crime happened in October. The Kamala Police Chief says he will face a murder charge if police find that he killed his wife to collect on insurance payments. The Chinese husband is from Tianjin, China and is alleged to have murdered his wife during a family vacation in Phuket after buying up more than 30 million yuan (US$4.3 million) in life insurance policies in her name. Kamala Police Chief Col Somkit Boonrat says, “The incident happened at a hotel in Kamala. The news comes as the parents of the wife, 29-year-old Zhang Jia, report that her husband, Zhang Yifan, 31, from Tianjin, had taken out life insurance policies amounting to more than B142 million in the months leading up to the family holiday in Phuket. Zhang Yifan was taken into custody on Nov 2 after he confessed to police that he lost control of his temper and drowned his wife in a hotel pool at a “luxury private hotel” in Kamala, Capt Ekkachai Siri of the Phuket Tourist Police told The Phuket News today (Dec 13). He was probably looking forward to a second holiday gambling his fortune away in casinos in Laos or Cambodia - but not anymore! RIP his wife.
