"Fat man in a pick-up" aborts midnight ATM attack attempt in Ayutthaya

A thief who tried to cut his way into an SCB ATM machine in Ayutthaya had to give up when a beer factory employee sounded the alarm.

 

The Chang Beer employee saw a "fat man with gas equipment" trying to cut into the ATM outside a pharmacy on the Ayutthaya to Sena Road at 2 am on Tuesday morning.

 

He alerted security in the area and the would be thief raced off in his four door pick-up without a singe baht. 

 

The ATM was left with a 40 cm long gash but was not penetrated. 

 

Police are studying CCTV and fingerprints to get a lead but suspect that the person or persons responsible have tried other thefts in the area. 

 

The bank confirmed that just over 90,000 baht was still in the machine that was attacked.

I read the headline and genuinely thought it was about an overweight tourist who had avoided losing his money to a girl trying to pick him up.

I would like to see the statistics to back up your assertion that Thailand

leads the world in this particular category.

 

Common criminals are not generally known for their intellectual capabilities

Don't need statistics just read tvf news every day, robbers x2 locked in gold shops,burglar falls asleep on job get's strangled when owner return's,man shoots some one hides under bed at his aunties and many more.

No, Thailand is not "number 1 for idiot criminals."  I am from the USA and I can assure you that there are far more idiot criminals in the USA than in Thailand.
