Hi everyone, does anyone know what the actual rule/law is regarding the requirement of a lease to do a retirement extension? Today I had a male farang immigration volunteer get angry with me when I questioned his statement that I had to have a "one-year" lease in order to apply for a retirement extension.

I am staying in a guest house that I was planning to remain in until early Feb. This is in north Thailand. I am being purposely vague about the location.

I realize that most retirees live in one place, as is their custom. It's not mine.

I am currently near the end of a one-year entry on a now-expired O-A visa and it will be my first renewal.

If any of you know actual rules/laws and/or good methods for dealing with this situation, I'd like to hear them. Feel free to PM me also.

Thank you.

What office was that at?

There is no requirement for you to have one year lease. You just need proof of residence for where you are staying,

Has the guest house submitted a TM30 form to immigration.

There is no set rule regarding the length of lease. But an individual office could impose their own 'rule'.

Usually as long as you provide a hotel/guest house receipt or a short term lease it will usually be accepted.
