Thais conning Thais! This time it's a 30 million baht ponzi scheme run from Australia

Following strange claims earlier in the week that Thais don't con Thais comes news that a Thai woman and her gang operating out of Melbourne and Sydney has ripped off 100 of her compatriots.

The Ponzi scheme has caused losses of 30 million baht to gullible investors.

The case first broke when those who had been conned went to Lt-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn on his website for help.

The case involves a woman who sold shoes on Facebook but offered shares in the scheme as well. As with all such schemes high interest was initially paid before contact ceased and investments were taken.

Some lost nearly a million baht each.

Yesterday legal representation was made in Bangkok on behalf of the victims.

Earlier in the week the chief of Region 1 police had said that he had never heard of a case of Thais ripping off Thais - it was always foreigners doing the dirty work.

Thaivisa notes that it was unclear whether he was solely referring to "romance scams" though those cases also routinely involve Thai women working alongside mostly African scammers.

So can we pls have a comment from the uniformed retard about only foreigners scamming thais ...

Thai's living in foreign lands would be contaminated by the greedy diseases of the evil farang.

Until such time as Thais understand  that when things appear to be too good to be true, it is normally a rip off, these people will continue to get scammed. I am not sure if it is stupidity or greed, though probably both. Magical numbers of interest do not exist long term. It is hard to feel sympathy for people who throw millions into such obviously dishonest schemes.

Thais will rip off Thais on a daily basis, its all part of their culture.they just see foreigners as a bigger fish with less of a come back if it goes wrong.

Yes as i said in the previous topic, cheating and scamming is part of the Thai character, how did the phrase 'please don't Thai me' come about.

so why havent they said anything about aussie police becoming involved seeing its fraud, I am sure the aussie police would close this case up very quickly unlike thai police so maybe they do not want to embarrass themselves by saying what has happened to the scammers or simply havent even told the aussie police its happening for the same reason. Very strange they are not mentioning police at all

That's one of the reasons why they are such easy meat for these fraudsters.

A number of posts have been removed for various reasons.

Has to be a foreigner and not a Thai!

"According to Region One chief Pol Gen Amphon Buarapporn "he had never seen a case of a Thai ripping off a fellow Thai. It was always foreigners who were responsible.""

Yes well where we are the local market folk also rip off their country folk.... Several buying from Tesco lotus & selling at 3 or 4 times the cost... Some have never been to anywhere but the markets as they are old & stuck in their ways.

Doesn't stop the locals ripping off some of the poorest & vulnerable though ????

the general meant to say..." ive never been ripped off by a thai but have ripped off many of them" that would make sense.

That would be true! No Aussie would ever think of ripping off another person. That's fair dinkum, mate.

However, if you're in the market for a bridge..............

They are not only greedy. They ain’t stupid either. Not if they have that amount of money invested in the scheme. It is more probably thinking that when the musical chair stop, they had gotten enough payout and left the others holding the baton.

Isn’t that’s how ponzi scheme thrived on ?

Maybe they could do with some Aussie police on the roads here. That would wipe the Thai smile off some of this inpatient useless law breaking Thai drivers They would have to fly in an extra plane full of booking tickets for traffic infringements. But look at the bright side of that also the shops would do a roaring trade selling Motorcycle helmets

Streuth mate! What a bunch of flamin' bloody drongo's!

Fake news ! After all the commander of region 1 recently stated that Thais don't con Thais, and that its always foreigners doing it to Thais. So, this story can't possibly be true !
