Checking Criminal Record

Is there a database in Thailand where one can check a criminal record for a prospective (Thai) employee?

I think I know the answer to this question, but I'll ask it anyway:

Is there any point in reporting a theft at my condo of cash taken from my desk drawer by my maid? I do not have conclusive proof.

My Juristic P Manager said "yes", and he's a lawyer, but I tend to think it would be a waste of time, and the amount was only THB5k.

The maid has been fired, and I was going to withhold the money from her final payment, by way of a deduction for changing all my locks, which I did after she didn't return the keys. But she wasn't having any of that when she finally came back with them a week later, yesterday, and threatened reporting me to the police for not paying her in full, which I'm sure she has not. Anyway, I've relented today and paid her salary in full, because I couldn't deal with the hassle.
