The Transport Company is to launch a universal inter-province bus ticket reservation system next year to make so that passengers can book tickets through a single website, its managing director said.

Jirasak Yaowaratsakul said the state organisation plans to announce the terms of reference and open bidding for a developer of the online reservation system soon.

The bid winner could be selected in about four months, he added.

He noted that passengers at present need to go to each private bus operator’s individual website to book tickets or check bus schedules.

The new system will list all available buses and schedules to the same destinations so that passengers can make their choice, Jirasak added.

He said the new system will also report the number of tickets sold and the number of passengers. The data collected allow the Transport Company to predict how many people will be travelling during long holidays.

He said the winner of the bid would hire an IT consultant firm to advise on setting up the online system, hire officials to man the reservation system and develop smart stations at bus terminals nationwide.

great! now u can choose when to die

Bus deaths are 1% of total road fatalities in Thailand.

225 in the year of latest WHO statistics.

https://www.who.int/violence_injury_prevention/road_safety_status/2018/en/

That is 12.5 times greater than UK, but as bus usage in Thailand is very possibly 12.5 times greater it makes bus travel not seem to be the guaranteed unsafe travel that "everybody knows" it is.

Nearly all fatal bus incidents get reported in these pages.

Imagine if the same % of fatal M/c or private passenger vehicle deaths were reported here.

50+ fatal crash reports to read every day?

Hence the distorted perception of actual danger that TVF readers have.

That is the price of being a "news" junkie.

But how are the bus deaths divided between van deaths and real big bus deaths?

Sounds like a good idea to me.

The constant negativity and sarcasm of people commenting on TV is getting a bit boring.

Indeed, the ideals are decent in theory.

Yet, in practice don't expect miracles.

It's a perfect match for the eternal incompetence and stupidity of the people not commenting on TV. We deserve each other, yingyangtzingtzing.

Many more are maimed for life-not nearly as many diethere seems to be quite a few injuries every week, which indicates a problem, and if you have ridden quite a few times, you know there are many more close calls than there should be

I occasionally ride the double decker busses with my GF for long trips.

We always sit in the lower section because it's closer to the ground when the bus rolls over, thus lower impulse force when the side hits the ground. On the other hand its also vulnerable to sideways collisions but that's less likely than head on or rear collisions.

Most importantly, we always travel VIP busses and ALWAYS keep our seat belts snug.

What can you do other than stay at home hiding under the bed?
