Let's say a person is in this situation:

- On a one year extension of stay for working in Thailand

- Quitting a job 6 months into the extension

 

I've read here multiple times that the person has to cancel the extension of stay and has to leave the country (or change to another kind of extension).

What does actually happen if the person does not cancel the extension and just stays in the country until the permit to stay date in the passport is reached and then just leaves the country? Has the person been on a 6 months overstay?

Technically they would be on a overstay from the day they stopped working.
