Gucci apologises for women's jumper that 'resembles blackface'

Gucci has been embroiled in a racism row after shoppers complained a women's jumper resembled "blackface".

 

The Italian fashion brand faced a barrage of criticism after images emerged of the "balaclava jumper", which features a cut-out at the mouth that is outlined in red.

 

Gucci has issued an apology "for the offence caused" and pulled the item from its stores and website.

 

However, the item is still available to buy for $890 (£688) on shopping website Spring, where it is described as being part of "The Fall Winter 2018 runway show" which was "inspired by vintage ski masks".

Who the heck would want to buy something like this? Yes, I noted the price was qouted in $, but still.

Just make it in another colour and wait to see what the perpetually outraged can come up with next.

so if available in white would that then be 'whiteface' and attract complaints as well

Probably they will soon be available on Sukhumvit for 300B in multiple colors.

And then Gucci will claim they suffered millions in loss of revenue...

An apology is woefully insufficient. The culprit should be compelled to write a complete confession detailing all sins against the people....perform public self-criticism while being struggled against by PC cadre...and do twenty years of reform through labor.

Unless they've pissed off the (also black) bouncer at the club and had a serious smack in the kisser (the white guys also look like that after trying it on with said bouncer).

 

I think it was a stunt. Ha. Maybe not but I believe another major designer got in hot waters in China not too long ago for a Chinese woman eating pizza.

 

I feel that such taboo inflammation will only drive people with cash to buy their products.
