It will have zero affect on current - that's what the circuit breakers are for. Edit: Actually, watts has nothing to do with surge suppression. Maybe it has a 15 amp fuse in it? These Chinese power strips hardly stay together without any load. get something rated for 10A or so and look for "Not Made In China" logos.
