Cancelling WP and Getting a Marriage Visa

Featured Replies

I was wondering if someone could help. I am finishing off with my current employer and want to go to Savanakhet to get a Multiple Entry Marriage visa while i find a new job. I planned to do a visa run using a van on 20th March. I just found out though that my WP needs to be cancelled and my visa extension too. The challenge is that if i need to go to CW to cancel the visa on 20th and my company cancels the WP on 20th then i will not be able to get a van to savannakhet as i would not be leaving thailand until the morning of the 21st. I have therefore looked at flying. I am not sure how long it will take at CW to cancel the visa extension, but im guessing it will take a couple of hours which means getting a flight would be very tight for making getting a VOA for Laos at the border.

Is my only option to get a visa at the Laos Consulate here in Bkk before travelling therefore being able to cross the border to laos in the evening? I dont want to overstay or have any cause for questioning in my passport or records for future Visa or work permit applications.

Also, do i need to take My wifes original house book or is a copy sufficient. The person whose book bank it is is reticient to let it out of their sight.

I would be greatful for any assistance or advice anyone can provide.

You could have you work permit canceled and go to immigration on the 18th with a termination letter from your employer dated for the 20th and immigration would post date the cancelation date to the 20th.

Do you mean that i can precancel the visa extension based on the letter and leave on 19th

Yes you can.

You could do on Friday of this week if you wanted to. I just used the 18th as an example.

Okay, Great. Doesnt the WP need to be cancelled before i leave? I saw in another thread that immigration at the land border might ask to see a copy of the WP cancellation.

Also, Do i need original house book, or are signed copies enough.

Thank you very much for your help. This is all a little confusing.

Immigration only want to see that the extension has been canceled. Or they will accept a termination letter so they cancel it before leaving the country.

Original marriage certificate and a copy. Copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card signed by her.
