snoop1130 Posted March 20, 2019 Share Posted March 20, 2019 Appeals Court upholds ex-soldier’s murder conviction By The Nation File photo: Polkrit Wiset The Appeals Court on Wednesday upheld a lower court's July 2018 conviction of a former army sergeant, Polkrit Wiset, who abducted and killed his ex-girlfriend before burning her body in a remote area of Saraburi. The former soldier was sentenced to 33 years and 11 months as well as ordered to pay Bt1.5 million in compensation to the victim's family. Ployrin Plipon was 25 when she went missing from a food factory in Ayutthaya’s Tha Rua district on May 21, 2014. The lawsuit co-plaintiff Patcharee Panthong, the victim’s mother, told reporters outside the Saraburi court that she intended to appeal for a harsher punishment for Polkrit at the Supreme Court. However, her accompanying lawyer said the "sensitive" matter would be discussed first so they would know what to do next. Kritpol, who was dishonourably discharged from the army in 2014, surrendered to police in Nakhon Ratchasima in August 2017 after a police and army team surrounded a house, which was believed to belong to his new wife and where he was staying at the time. Following his arrest, Kritpol confessed to police that he kidnapped Ployrin with the intention of convincing her to resume their relationship. She apparently wanted to end the relationship after discovering Polkrit was married. After a heated argument, he strangled her to death. After disposing of the body, he fled the army and worked in Pattaya. Polkrit, who evaded arrest for nearly three years because he reportedly underwent Bt100,000 in plastic surgery to change his appearance, had a new wife and fathered a child.
