More than 670,000 people have signed a petition at the change.org website calling for the Election Commission’s five commissioners to be ‘stood aside’ pending an investigation in the aftermath of the March 24 Thai election.

Petitioners contend that the election was marred by mistakes, blunders and tampering.

The campaign could actually become a legitimate threat to the five commissioners due to the large number of signatories.

Fair enough call to my mind. They allowed a genuine contender party to be dissolved under highly dubious circumstances, ruled that Prayut, the PM, wasn't a public servant so he could stand for PM again, and then allowed all manner of cheating to go on. I know they were told from above to do it, but it proves beyond doubt that they have zero integrity, and should not only be summarily dismissed, but probably face criminal proceedings also. This being Thailand I expect none of that to happen of course.

Blimey who'd have thought that .. And weren't the E C in the run up saying stuff like this wouldn't happen ..

I doubt you'll get many pro junta fanboys commenting on this topic.

They actually believe everything was above board !

One can only dream of a long, humiliating trial, but that is just wishful thinking.  Sadly, there are so many of those without even slightest understanding between what is right and wrong.

To be honest, I disagree, don't go after the EC commisioners, they just did what they were told to do. Go after the guys controlling the commisioners. But I guess the amnesty is still valid, so no chance.

Section 44 will take care of this

By "take care of this" I assume that you mean that impeachment would be stopped by Article 44.

But as the EC's were selected by the current Prayut-appointed NLA, I doubt the current Prayut-appointed NLA will vote impeachment of any EC member.

FUrthermore, if impeachment of the EC members were delayed until the new government was installed, EC impeachment is still unlikely to happen given the potential post-election slim margin of pro-PTP MP's over pro-military MP's in the House after the election - a three-fourth vote of the NLA is required for impeachment.

Good, they had the choice to do what they did throughout the lead-up to the election day.

Or they could have stepped down from the responsibility.

Many decisions they made were dubious to say the least.

The main one being how does an acting servant of the army be allowed to stand as PM?

Plus many other issues, such as advance votes not being collected/counted in time

a rather high figure of spoilt papers, higher numbers of votes in some areas than voter turn-out

and the ever present not so secret vote buying !!!!

The whole election is/was a scam from the very beginning!

The election dates have been put-off and delayed so many times to allow certain measures to be put in place to guarantee the outcome.

And no international election scrutineers to oversee the election process was all legal and above board.. It was previously reported that the EC said it was unnecessary as all the processes were neutral of government influence..
