Dr Scholls customer fit foot scanning for insoles in BKK

When I was at the foot doctor Friday , he said that I had flat feet ( I did as a child too) and that getting arch support insoles would help my hurting ankle.

He said to just try the store bought ones and if that did not help , have them special made after a foot scanning .

Then I saw the Dr Schools has a foot scanner at many stores and I assume once they tell you the size you need you can buy them off the shelf.

So has anyone done this ? Is there a place in BKK that has this machine ?

And is it basically the same price as in the USA since the insoles come from the USA anyway.

Or is there a better idea ?

Thanks for your help

The ready made insoles will be much, much cheaper so I would try those first.

Also where possible but shoes that have built in arch support. Vionic brand is good plus some Dr Scholl's have it.

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=vionic+shoes+for+men&crid=3SAVBB0AQX2I2&sprefix=vionic%2Caps%2C399&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_8_6

When/if going barefoot inside the house it is helpful to wear a simple elastic sleeve around the middle of your foot, picks the arch up.  This type is my favorite:

https://www.amazon.com/Arch-Support-Brace-Compression-Sleeves/dp/B07KGKSW2M/ref=sr_1_18?crid=1603LH9FKFEUD&keywords=arch+support+sleeve&qid=1554012491&s=gateway&sprefix=arch+support+sleeve%2Caps%2C383&sr=8-18

Lazada aso has some but last tiem I looked all the ones they had included these gel pads that I find awkward.

IMHO, the topic you're raising is a very problematic one for expat folks here in Thailand.

I too need special insoles for my feet, and it's VERY difficult to find anyone competent here to either sell them or make them.  And, re your specific question, I've seen the Dr. Scholl's (not Schools) machines in the U.S., but I've never seen or heard of them here in Thailand. And I don't think I've ever seen any Dr. Scholl's ARCH support insoles being sold directly here, though I have seen some regular flat insoles of theirs before.

However, on a recent visit to Central Chidlom, they did have a foot scanning unit installed and working there by a brand of insoles that were being sold there, and it appeared to be working OK. In my case, the insoles they're selling aren't large enough for my size feet. But for others, it may be an option.

Prior to that, been thru many unsuccessful rounds on this point here:

--had a doctor, who supposedly was a specialist in this, at Bangkok Hospital prepare a custom made pair of insoles for me... that cost around 9000 baht, and never worked or were comfortable from day one, and he was never able to adjust to work properly or be comfortable.

--went to another orthopedic doctor at Phyathai II hospital, and he referred me to a technician they work with who without even checking or measuring my feet, added some rubber like material to the arch area of some existing shoe insoles I had.  That too was a failure, not surprisingly.

These days, when I need to buy insoles, I buy them when I'm back in the U.S. or order them for delivery from the U.S. to Thailand.

This may be another option for arch support shoes and custom insoles in BKK, though I've never used them personally, again, because their largest size is too small for me.  But it's worth checking out, as they're sold thru the Verasu stores here, specifically their Wireless Road and Ladprao locations. Apparently they do both shoes and standalone insoles.

Hi , the Fit for feet office was across the street from Vejthani hospital , I noticed the sign on the way home

Sent from my Nexus 6 using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

I sent them an email a few years back, and they replied that the max size they can do was 11 or 12 in men's size U.S., and their price for a custom insole, then, was around 6000b.  It might be worth checking with them as to whether anything has changed with their sizing limit. I'd imagine their pricing has changed in the years since I queried them.

I also didn't check with them, but probably should, as to whether they can do a custom fit 3/4 length insole that would accommodate larger sizes even if their full length insole cannot.  The curse of having (very) large feet....

Where is the place in Central ?

I might try going by there if I have the time, thanks

If you mean the Central Chidlom shop I mentioned above, I went back there tonight in part because of this thread, and had a long talk with the staff, who barely speak English, but was aided by a helpful translator lady from a nearby section. Here's the 411...

They have a website, but I think it's entirely in TH language:

www.aetrexthailand.com

And a Facebook page - /AetrexThailand

And a call center that supposedly speaks EN -- 061 389 6008

The shop is the Aetrex brand shop on the 5th floor of Central Chidlom in a small area the store calls its Elder Care section with canes, cushions and other such things.  The Aetrex shop there sells arch support regular shoes, slip on arch support sandals and standalone arch support insoles. And they still do have the computer foot scanning and diagnosis station working there.

The insoles go up to U.S. size 13 for men, and come in 3 different arch support levels -- low, medium and high. The shoes and sandals go up to size 14 U.S. and only have one level of arch support. List prices are in the 2000 to 2500 baht range, though Central is often having some kind of storewide XX percent off sale (right now it's 10%).

I normally wear a size 15 U.S. shoe. But to my surprise, I tried the 14 size slip on arch support sandal and it fit my foot OK, so I bought a pair of those, and am trying them on at home right now. Whether they'll be a good solution for my needs only time will tell. But Aetrex is a quality brand, and not just located in Thailand.

When I tried on their size 13 insole, apart from being too short for me, it also seemed thin and not particularly strongly supportive in the arch. But the slip-on sandals I bought definitely have a firm and supportive arch section. I wanted to try on some of their shoes, but they had no 14s in stock at Chidlom, so they're going to send some for me for next week to try on when they arrive. So I'll see about those later.

Here's some of the images I took today:

This below is what their video screen displays at the completion of their computer foot analysis they do with you standing on a special measuring pad.

From the other place I mentioned above -- the Fit for Feet shop inside the Verasu stores on Wireless Road and on Ladprao in BKK, where they make custom arch support insoles and sell shoes also -- here's the email they sent me back in 2013:

Also, FWIW, my Thai wife also has arch support problems, and she found an international brand of shoes and sandals that's also sold on the 3rd floor of Central Childlom by the name of Oofos (which I'd never heard of before, but I gather is based in the U.S.  And she's been wearing them for a good long while and swears by them, but sadly again, they don't stock anything close to my size here. But they may be another good brand to explore for those with regular size feet.

And they seem to have selling locations in many areas within BKK and outside. And as usual, I'm guessing their selection may vary, more or less, from location to location.

Lastly, I remember contacting the Dr. Scholl's entity here in Thailand, which doesn't deal with nearly the range of products that they have in the U.S., and being told that their BEST retail selection of Dr. Scholl's products here was going to be at the Robinson's Department Store in the Central Rama 9 Mall....

I have a vague feeling I visited there once looking for anything that would be appropriate for me with my size, but I don't think I came away with anything, and their stock still wasn't remotely close to what's offered in the U.S.

However, the problem with ordering remotely from the U.S. using Amazon or similar, is you have no ability to try and feel the fit of things, so it's kind of taking a shot in the dark unless you've already tried and found a particular product worthwhile.

Thanks John for taking the time to hunt that all down ,

My shoe size is normal so not the problem that you have ,

It would be nice if I could buy off the shelf inserts or even shoes with higher arch support ,

I will check it out

Thanks

When you mentioned having seen a foot doctor Friday and the doctor recommended you getting arch support insoles, I'm assuming you mean a doctor in Thailand?  And if so, did you ask that doctor where and what brand(s) they thought such a product could be found here?

No we left off with getting the generic Dr,Sholl Insert that you cut to size from the store and seeing how that worked ,

Like always you think of 10 questions to ask on the way home !

Like how much arch support do I need etc , and how are premade shoes sized for arch support

..

When I get back to he States in a few days I will give the generic ones a try and maybe go and find a store with the foot scanner ,

I hope it's as simple as the correct shoes and correct arch support ????

I've been unable to find any Thai doctor or technician here who, at least for me, can correctly diagnose and provide the proper product/adjustments when it comes to custom insoles / arch support / plantar fasciatis, etc etc.

The custom made insoles offered by Fit for Feet at Verasu sound promising, but in my case, I'm unable to even give them a try because they won't/can't make my size. Not to mention, them being pretty darned expensive at probably $200+.

I believe the specialist term in the U.S. is called pedorthist. I tried one such place on my recent visit back to the U.S., they diagnosed and sold me a bunch of stuff for my shoes, that when I got back here and started trying to wear them every day, didn't help at all... Buyer beware...

And of course, once you have anyone prepare a custom made item for you, you're pretty much stuck with it, and they're unlikely to accept any returns. So that's why I've often experimented with different brands of retail arch support insoles.

One brand of those that gets very good reviews, and has worked for me in the past but not any longer, is the blue colored Powerstep Pinnacle brand, easily available from Amazon. And I can vouch for their quality and durability. And they provide very good arch support.

https://www.amazon.com/Powerstep-Pinnacle-Shoe-Insoles-Shock-Absorbing/dp/B07MK46F8M

As for Walmart and their Dr. Scholl foot measuring machine, keep in mind, those are not providing you with any kind of custom made insole. They're just assessing your foot and then suggesting which of the various Dr. Scholl's off the shelf retail insoles is going to be the most compatible, AFAIK.

I got mine via amazon - I wear these in the house: could not be happier. (Orthotic inserts for my day to day shoes and sandals)41Ur5R6gPsL._SY90_.jpg

It comes down to a judgment call... The Aetrex brand sandals and slip-on slides being sold on the 5th floor of Central Chidlom are very much like the model you show above.

The differences, of course, are the Amazon product is $40 prior to shipping or delivery to Thailand, and you're not able to try them on in advance for fit and sizing. The Aetrex brand here sells for $60-$70 total (or less depending on routine sales) with no shipping required, and you have the ability to try them on for fit and sizing....

I'm also in the market for foot care products. I think the best thing to do is just to buy insoles and arch support items from the Internet until you find something that does the job. You can even make some items on your own. It's a lot less expensive than getting customized orthotics that may not necessarily be effective. I believe some manufacturers like Dr. Scholls offer a money-back guarantee if you're not totally satisfied, so that may help keep costs down.

Foot insoles are normally non-refundable in the store, but I bought a pair at a local pharmacy here in Canada that was refundable. They had their own house brand of insoles, very similar to Dr. Scholls, and told me they would accept returns and issue me a refund if I was not satisfied.
