The USS Abraham Lincoln docked at Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri on the morning of September 2, but members of the public will not be allowed into the port to see the US Navy aircraft carrier.

Port authorities have increased patrols and tightened existing security arrangements around the nuclear-powered vessel, which is expected to remain under high-level protection throughout its stay.

Security tightened around the carrier

Laem Chabang Port deputy director Weerachat Phuttharaksa said security duties have been divided between government agencies, relevant officers and the personnel responsible for security within the port.

He said the USS Abraham Lincoln is a US military vessel and therefore requires substantial security measures while it is berthed at Laem Chabang.

Weerachat acknowledged that many people may want to see the large carrier, particularly following its arrival in Chon Buri. However, he said areas around the ship cannot be opened to visitors.

"We sincerely apologise that we cannot accommodate visitors or allow the public to come in and see the ship due to security requirements," Weerachat said.

Areas near the aircraft carrier are restricted under Chon Buri security measures and remain off-limits to the public, he added.

The restriction applies to the public generally, meaning visitors should not travel to the port expecting access to the waterfront or areas close to the USS Abraham Lincoln. Increased patrols are operating inside the port, while entry rules have been reinforced following the vessel's arrival.

Those interested in following the visit have been advised to rely on photographs, news coverage and other media updates rather than attempting to visit the restricted area.

Weerachat also wished US Navy personnel well as they begin disembarking from the aircraft carrier.

A separate report said the USS Abraham Lincoln's visit could bring 100 million baht to Pattaya, while the preparations and arrival of the US Navy has drawn international attention.

Yep.

The local Sevens and Mini Big Cs will be strip-mined for razor blades, FHPs, toothpaste and brushes, deodorant, shampoo, wet wipes, lower-priced cigarettes, and vitamin D drinks.

With another month or so of travelling back to North Island, the revictualling of the carrier group across the three ports is a boon to Thai primary producers.

Yes, they are plentiful and available. Those thinking otherwise haven't a clue about US Navy warships, especially an aircraft carrier. The stuff in the store will be similar to a mini big c and 7/11. Just like a regular store, stock does run out...and it comes back in quick. The stores stock the same stuff they buy in the US, name brand toiletries, snacks, drinks, and things you would buy in those stores at home. There is one large store and smaller specialty stores. I think most everyone would be amazed what is on one of these ships.

Usually? Of course! But prior to arriving at Laem Chabang? Depends to whom you listen.

Ships, especially quarter-mile long beasts that are basically a 20 storey building tall, like Nimitz Class carriers, have huge stocks including contingency supplies for extended deployments. However, this extended deployment - going from the usual 30-45 days has gone over 260 days.

When the base in US navy's supply base in Bahrain was destroyed in the first retaliation by Iran on 28th February, the ability to resupply the carrier task force was severely compomised.
While not completely razed to the ground, it was rendered uninhabitable and unserviceable. This lead to lengthened the supply chains, thus leading to the shortages. I'm sure we've all seen photos of the meals being served at one point.

For what it's worth, I'm more inclined to believe the service members serving in the 7th Fleet and their families. They have stated that basic personal hygiene items have been scarce to non-existent.

Of course, during this resupply of the task force, these items will be replenished for purchase through the commissaries throughout the ships.

But, logically, the ease of access while on shore leave would mean personnel can do a quick personal stock up at the hundreds of local stores.

This is the first time they will be able to be in a port and carry out some maintenance, as well as give people some time Ashore to enjoy life and breathe fresh air. The big winners in this will be CP Group and possibly Lotus.

Definitely, once this ship gets back home, it will be a few months in dry dock.

The big thing is to get the sailors and jarheads off the ship and let them burn off some energy. I imagine Walking Street was lively last night

There were several us soldiers stationed near us here in Surin , They were involved in clearing unexploded mines, all nice guys and all well built. One day they encountered the local "hardman" a scottish guy who spent his time wanting to fight the world and intimidate others,

It was quite entertaining watching them smoke all his cigarettes, and then sending him to the shop to buy some more. Never saw him again after that

i imagine their will be a book or two written by someone onboard after they have left the service. and than we find out what a horror show it was.

Not a suprise really as there would be a fair few who would like to get close and try to do damage to it under the present hostile climate.

Personally,I am not even American and have no skin in the game , But, if I was ultimately in charge of controlling the armed forces during a war I would not be broadcasting my intentions or shortcomings, or those of my military on social media or anywhere else,

No the toilets will of course not be repaired, they will simply lock the doors or more likely weld them shut . All crew members will need to keep their legs crossed and there buttocks clenched for the remainder of the journey ,at least until they reach the USA and possibly until they arrive at their homes

It unlikely to cause much of a problem, as according to some they are running out of supplies, I'm waiting for the first reports of scurvy

Do they even have enough money to purchase the required amount of fuel for the journey home ?

You do realize the ocean is salt water? it's very corrosive and the ship has been at sea for a long time!
