Two held for ‘insulting’ PM

Featured Replies

Siem Reap provincial court has placed a one-star military general in pre-trial detention after he was arrested on March 26 for insulting Prime Minister Hun Sen on Facebook.

Provincial court spokesperson Yin Sreang told The Post on Sunday that Lee Davet, also known as Lee David, a 45-year-old from Stung Treng province, has been charged with inciting soldiers to disobey the prime minister, possessing/transporting weapons without authorisation and inciting others to commit an offence under articles 471, 490, 494 and 495 of the Criminal Code.

...Particularly in countries populated by self serving, greedy and corrupt despots; and living under repression with limited free speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of the press.

This is a little confusing.

The Supreme Commander-in-Chief is HM King Norodom Sihamoni, Since 2018 General Vong Piseng is the Commander in Chief of the RCAF as head of the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Gendarmerie. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=Cambodia+head+of+military

It appears that military chain of command falls under the Head of State.

Where does military obedience to the prime minister originate?

looks like abackstreet boys bostlon tea party coup in the making has been averted?

Sorry, this thread is about Cambodia... Your comment above is clearly off-topic and belongs in a different forum section here.

Rhetorical question? Hun Sen makes it all up as he goes along to suit himself. Didn't he appoint one of his son's to a senior military position?

Yes. His eldest son, Hun Manit, is commander of the army and graduated from West Point Academy in the USA. He is groomed to be Cambodia's next PM.

I think you are pretty safe saying what you want as long as its not written in khmer on facebook.

Yes, if that headline was in the Thailand News section I don't think anyone would be even mildly surprised.

Hun Sen deserves all the insults his population can muster up. The serial killing despot is up to no good, as usual.
