Egg farmers satisfied with increased farm price

BANGKOK, 1 April 2019 (NNT) - Egg farmers are satisfied with current egg prices after they had recently been suffering reduced profits. The Department of Livestock Development is urgently finding new markets for them.

Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Grisada Boonrach said the egg oversupply situation has started to improve after 16 breeder chicken companies and large egg farms decreased their breeders.

The egg price at egg farms has risen to 2.50 baht a piece.

The ministry adjusts egg production in line with domestic consumption so that egg farmers sell their eggs at good prices, but consumers are not affected, said Mr. Grisada.

The Department of Livestock Development now exports 49 million more eggs each month. Domestic egg prices are expected to increase further in May when schools reopen.

Director-General of the department, Sorawit Thanito, said egg farmers are satisfied with the price hike and expressed his confidence that egg prices will continue to rise.

What 'new markets' are there likely to be for eggs - pelting unpopular politicians and media figures?

Lots of raw product producers here simply don't get it about the market and expect the authorities to "Harry Potter" the prices whenever they want. Quick tip, oversupply is usually bad for prices so don't do a lemming with everyone else. Oh, diversifying your sources of income is often a good move too, as the old saying goes "All your eggs in one basket' seems appropriate for this story.

When you actively "encourage" the population to remain "mushrooms" very few have the means to diversify! the "government" occasionally helps the farmers to diversify, their last inspirational move was to encourage the growing of sugar cane, getting away from rice & tapioca. ????

How does that work .. Last chick I had who said I had nice eggs wouldn't pay anything to avail herself of them .. In fact I had to give HER some dosh the next morn' ..

i can relate to this story..was an egg farmer for 15yrs in nz..

after investing huge money to buy the farm--the govt then deregulated the undustry in 1987, as producers increased production, egg prices dropped, until we were selling for under cost of production.

this went on for many yrs-smaller producers went broke..

supermkts squeezed the producers even more..

it was a very stressful part of my life.

just one more reason why i am making the very most of happy /stressfree life in thailand...

The big companies like CP and Betagro are killing the small farmers, and that goes for all animals and they are pushing in to vegetable market too, so basically you have 3-4 big actors controlling the market and lobbying for what ever will give them more profit and forcing competitions out of the market. For example, that's why the Thai government didn't put a ban on glycophosphate and paraquat, as CP want's to continue using them, and it's also why home slaughter has basically been banned (another change to the law that was lobbied by CP!!!)!

Driven by consumer demand for low prices.

Yes, and that's why so much of the production of consumer productions have moved from US and EU to countries like China and Bangladesh.

Good example Murray.  Same thing going on now with Aussie dairy farmers .... supermarkets are just squeezing the margins so tight now that they are not making anything and the little guys are going bust. This is happening in many industries,  as you mentioned ... a stressfull time working daylight till dusk for very little or going backwards.
