Where to find BIG bags of rice and how much?

Supermarkets usually have no bigger than 5 kg, not big.

Around the fresh markets there are usually rice dealers.

Their bags should be 20 kg or so, all kinds (Thai grown).

 

Believe it or not, but you could order it via Lazada

E.g. 15 kg Hom Mali (fragrant) rice, 639 Baht.

42 Baht/kg.

Sounds expensive.

On the other hand, 5 kg bag for 300 Baht

 

But as in previous post: more details needed (amount and type of rice).

everywhere, literally everywhere. Most even moderately large towns and some villages have shops, lots of them, selling very large bags of all kinds of rice. As it's the staple diet of Thailand, it's not that big a task to find.

As written, walk around the markets and you will find.

My wife says 1200(!) for 20 kg (guess top quality).

Hard to believe when you know the prices for the farmers at the rice mill.

same here.  Mrs P went 3 days ago to the local town and bought 2,  20kg bags. Can't recall the exact price she payed, but it was less than the 3,500 Baht she had with her.

You have to make sure if you buy big bag,25 Kg +,you

store it properly,you also need to check that the savings

are large enough to warrant buying a large bag,unless 

you use a lot,watch out for weevils.

absolutely;  good advice. We have lost bags before now to rice Beatles.  We now store in large plastic sealed boxes.

Go to any rice wholesaler. Buy a sack of rice (20 kg for 350 baht - but varies with the type) get it milled (de-husked). Get a nice looking bit of fluff to cook some for you and tuck in.

Makro, Tesco Lotus, Big C  they do have big bags 20 KG.

And you can go look in sois for rice sellers, they are able to sell big bags.

 

In rural places, you can find companys who sell big bags. Most are factories for the ricefields around.

I know one in Pak Thong Chai, province Korat and have bought here before.

It looks alike they are only selling to companies but particular buyers are welcome too.

 

Now I just buy what the promotion are.

The cheaper white rice for my dogs and the hom malee for on the table.

 

1. Rice sold in sois/side streets. They do have BIG bags.

Note the prices in the picture is not Thai but Filipin. But same situation in Thailand.

 

2. A streetview screenshot from that place where you can buy BIG .. very BIG

 

It helps when you give us your location, it doesn't need to be exact but then we can give better suggessions.

This lady would practically give the stuff away in any quality you would want... Sadly I haven’t seen her lately... I think she had to relocate out of the area...

Rice wholesalers have a lot of rice in open bags to show customers. If you go with a Thai woman who knows her rice, you might be there for hours. Smelling rice, touching rice, discussing rice, There is far more to it than the average Farrang can comprehend. Scout out a shop that sells beer and sit your self down....and wait patiently. Yeah, we can pick out a good potato though ????

Rice merchants everywhere - our village has one.

We buy Hom Mali Mai

The Soi shops order for you with a little profit added.

Of cause you need to ask a few as the prices are variable.

Soi Nern Plub Wan in East Pattaya near the gasoline station has such a shop.

Khao Hom was last year 50 Kg 1850 baht.

We are still eating from it but to be honest, a new harvest tastes better, the bag was way too big for my wife and me.

On Wualai road - near the end closest to Hangdong. Is one of the largest wholesalers. They sell retail there as well.
