MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Australia's opposition Labor is the favourite to win a national election expected in May, two polls showed on Monday, but its lead has narrowed over the conservative coalition government which announced income tax cuts in its budget last week.

A closely watched Newspoll done for The Australian newspaper showed Labor ahead of the Coalition 52-48 on a two-party preferred basis, but that was down from 54-46 in the last poll in March.

A separate Ipsos poll, published by the Sydney Morning Herald, showed Labor ahead 53-47.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to call an election this week, most likely for May 11 or May 18.

"The election will be called in April and the election will be held in May. We're not doing this with any haste and we're not doing it with any delay," Morrison told reporters on Sunday, amid speculation he was delaying to give the government more time to promote its budget.

"I noticed Bill Shorten's frustration yesterday, but you know, that impatience is born of arrogance," Morrison said.

Despite Labor's consistent lead in the polls over the past year, Morrison remains the preferred prime minister over Labor leader Shorten.

Newspoll surveyed 1,799 voters across the country from April 4 to 6, following the release of the government's budget on April 2 and Labor's reply two days later.

The Ipsos poll surveyed 1,200 voters from April 3 to 6, and has a margin of error of 2.9 percent.

Venezuela springs to mind as the current failure of the year. I suppose if Australia want to commit national suicide they will elect Shitern and his his crew of parasitic immigrant appeasing cretins.

You see the ALP as the equivalent of Maduro? Interesting

In 1950, Venezuela was the world's 4th wealthiest nation per capita. Problem was Chavez squandering the wealth on socialist projects, corruption and no long term investment in infrastructures and maintenance of income generating industries. Maduro is just overseeing the result of this. Shitern would do the same to Australia, open borders, country overrun by parasitic mongrels, Corbyn would do the same for the UK. although the UK is already inundated with the parasites, Taxinda Ardern is in full appeasement and snowflake mode at present, soon lose NZ too.

So which country do you hold out as a shining example other countries should be following?

Well, the only people who are against Maduro seem to be the CIA and the US Oil barons? Of course CNN has run up the anti Maduro banner, that alone should be enough to qualify this anti nonsense as fake news...there doesn't seem to be any shortages of food in the capital  but serious inflation!

Australia ???????? has had 4 Prime Ministers in 5 years and politically is in a shambles.. Too much dis-unity and the people are looking for stable government.. Shorten will let the boats back in again and wants 50% of all cars on the road by 2030 to be electric, but we don't have a reliable power grid to keep the lights on during summer.. And Morrison's previous track record doesn't shine with his team..

One positive is that whoever wins next government, the result will be known in days even with a cliffhanger.. Not like in Thailand where everyone has to wait 6 weeks for a result, and the EC is yet to state what formula they will use to work out who gets what seats to form the new government.. TIT..

I'm still waiting for John1012 to enlighten us on the country he believes Australia should be emulating

Australia gave up its car industry some years ago under the Liberals. Australia imports all its cars and will simply have to take whatever the rest of the world is prepared to manufacture. That means electric - take it or leave it

Abbott sourcing funding from the Chinese Communists to prop up his bid to get re-elected in Warringah. Dutton having a meeting with a Chinese billionaire trying to gain Australian citizenship, advised by ASIO said billionaire is a major security risk. Yeah, the Liberals are such pillars of rectitude.

Neither of the major parties will be getting my vote.  Pauline Hanson or Fraser Anning.

Grab a gun mate. Shoot first and ask questions later.

But get the gun first. And ask US to help you get a gun.

Then you are a man. A real man.

Or perhaps a very small penis man.

Xenophobia?

The rest of the world does not have the huge distances in the country regions that Australia has. When an electric car can do as far on a single charge as a conventional car can do on a single tank, and recharge the battery in the same time as it takes to fill a tank of fuel is the day I would buy an electric vehicle in Australia.

I imagine your forbears made the same comments about sticking to the horse and buggy when the first cars came along. I repeat - which country will you be importing your petrol car from? It's not being manufactured in Australia. China is no longer building petrol cars, and the European manufacturers are reducing their output of those vehicles.

So the labor party is planning on nationalizing major businesses, throwing out those executives, and replacing them with military men?

Electric as a gross percentage of vehicles is a long way down the road....even decades. As a buyer of a Mazda 3 for my daughter and being impressed very much by it I follow Mazda production news and if you check their media they are predicting that electric fleet production will only be 5% of their total production even by 2030. Until they get the price of them down, get them doing long range distance and being able to tow load they are about as useful for non city people as t!ts on a bull.

So simple seeing Mazda are produced in this corner of the world in Japan then Japan it is. And that is also reflected by Ford, Toyota and Kia and all the rest that produce for this corner of the world like from Korea and Thailand production lines that produce the 2 ton utes and SUV's that we buy that they all know are decades away from being electric.

And like our "forebearers" we will gladly change when they get the technology right for the average for ???? bears ...I guess you were including Goldilocks as the forth bear.
