April 13, 20197 yr He said 667,000 people left Bangkok for other provinces on Thursday alone – the largest single-day exodus for Songkran on record. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ And what, they had an abacus counting the 667,000 people as they left BKK...............
April 13, 20197 yr Here we go AGIAN!! Every year, all day/night long. Immigration nonsense and deadly roads are the worst things about Thailand.
April 13, 20197 yr These are almost pointless stories. You could recycle the same images year after year, Songkran, New Years, or just watch the Ch3 news every morning to images of everyday road carnage I've come to believe, because they are Buddhist, and they think they are coming back. No matter how many pixelated images of the dead bodies next to the mangled cars they see on TV, it has any effect on them Edited April 13, 20197 yr by GinBoy2
April 13, 20197 yr Sad for those we've lost, happy about my decision to stay in BKK. Other than taxis from and to airports, and around BKK, I've cut out Thailand road travel the rest of the year, too. What it takes for a national fricking emergency here is beyond me.
April 13, 20197 yr If only drunk drivers and drivers who speed would crash and kill only themselves, it wouldn't be such a big deal. When these <deleted> get behind the wheel and hurt or kill innocents, it makes for a bitter pill to swallow.

I'd add "selfish" as well into that, those who just can't wait, who treat the road as theirs and theirs alone, those ones jumping queues, using the emergency lane , swerving in and out of moving traffic and trying to push you off the road d riving an inch from your bumper etc.

April 13, 20197 yr This is the result when you have an incompetent highway patrol, who refuse to patrol the highways and ticket people for careless and dangerous driving. There is a real sense of impunity on the roads for good reason. No cops. No deterrent. That combined with a lack of skill and utter, mind boggling recklessness and selfishness. Something has to change. How about we start by getting rid of the army?
April 14, 20197 yr Good news is you are much more likely to die from stroke, heart disease, or cancer in Thailand. Though Road accidents are the number one cause of Pre-mature death here in the Kingdom. The "Love affair" with the automobile will never change for most ..... and it is truly a death sentence if one ever meets another on the road who has lost their control or never had it http://www.healthdata.org/thailand
April 14, 20197 yr Even better news, when Thailand's vehicle fatality rate is measured per vehicle as it should be, not per capita, Thailand leads both South East Asia as a whole and even China in road safety..... Fatalities per 100,000 vehicles Thailand 74.6 SE Asia 101.0 China 104.5 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate Ah, Thailand, Songkran, Bangkok roads are almost empty, what a great time to go for a drive.
