In order to extend my stay from a multiple entry O visa to supporting my Thai child I know is possible. But is it possible to get an extension for the same criteria from a retirement extension of stay? In other words to change one extension of stay to another.

I know it may sound convoluted but I might have not enough days left on my O visa to be able to complete the necessary administration for the one but can fulfill the retirement requirements.

Yes you could change from one extension to the other.

However you no longer need to get an extension based on supporting your Thai Child. You are over 50 years old and do not need to have money in the bank or an income if you have a Thai child.

If you are married, you just need to show the marriage certificate and birth certificate.

If you are divorce, then you need to show the divorce certificate and birth certificate.

If you never did get married, then you need a letter from the district office that you are the father. Your child must go went with you and sign his name that you are the father. If he’s not old enough to sign his name, then you will need to go to Court to have the court sign on behalf of him that you are the father. With this letter from the district office and the birth certificate you will qualify.

This is Immigration in Bangkok. Upcountry not all Immigration Offices are aware of the new rules.

There is no current provision for supporting a Thai child (for those not already in the system) but there is an option to live with your child if over age 50. That option requires no financial proof but so far have only heard of it being approved in Bangkok (with use of Sunbelt lawyers being the reported successful cases). There is no problem making a change of extension type as have changed from marriage to retirement myself.

For retirement you need 65k monthly income as certified by your Embassy and paperwork that supports that if requested. Process is immediate. If you want to use 800k bank deposit method there is now a requirement that funds have been on deposit for a period of three months prior to application and bank passbook and letter required. Again, approval is immediate.
