I did my first crossing there in December and it was a very easy experience.

Both Thai and Burmese officials seem very friendly.

Get there no later than 4pm as immigration close at 4.30 for farang although I would get there earlier if I were you.

Have to pay 500 Bht on the Burmese side for admin fee.

Also I think 5 or 10 Bht for a photo copy of your passport. I took one with me but they still took the money and didnt copy my passport. Didnt even take the photo copy! Oh well, only 10 Bht.

Burmese official will probably ask you if you want to do some shopping on their side. Not sure if there is an extra fee for any time spent in Burma but as I got there at 4.15 I just turned around and ran back across the bridge to get my Thai stamp before they closed.

The road from Tak to Mae Sot is very up and down and winding, give yourself plenty of time to get to the crossing. There is a small roundabout just before Mae Sot and the sign for the bridge is not very clear, I think its the 3rd exit, just follow that all the way to the border. 2nd exit takes you into Mae Sot itself which is a pain to get through when busy late afternoon.

I have to go there again at the end of this month and almost look forward to it and 1st time was very straightforward and a good couple of days out sightseeing too.

Good luck, Andy.

Hi Thanks,

I suppose you leave your car somewhere on the Thai side ?........

How long did it take you from Tak to the boarder ?

I will drive my friend from Utttaradit through Sukhothai and Tak

Took me about 90 minutes Tak to the bridge but I drive safely! and there were a couple of checkpoints too.

Easy to park very near Immigration on the Thai side.

Forgot to add there is a small office just for farang on the right hand side on the Burmese side if the bridge. I was the only one when I did my crossing.
