OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke on Friday with U.S. President Donald Trump about tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada and about the trade agreement signed last year between the two countries and Mexico.

The two leaders spoke "about Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum, and Canada's retaliatory tariffs," Cameron Ahmad, Trudeau's communications director, said on Twitter. "They also discussed China, uranium, and the new NAFTA."

It is the third time Trudeau and Trump have spoken in nine days, and the latest conversation comes amid media reports saying the United States is close to a deal to remove tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada and Mexico.

.........and he folds. What a clown. All this disruption to people and businesses for what? The right to request a study if there is a sharpe increase in metal imports. No quotas, no restrictions. Then I turn on CNBC and their commentators are saying Trump has the better hand against China. HUH? What morons. That country has zero chance of getting the better of the Chinese.

Did it finally dawn on Donald that if you are going to have a trade war you might want some allies?now do you think it was such a great idea to pick a needless fight with our friends?moron out with this fraud the sooner the better!

Trudeau and Trump discuss

Conjures up images of a huge male lion toying with a wounded gazelle he is about to devour. Trudeau is just so out of his depth in any talks it is embarrassing to think about. It's about time Canada elects a proper leader, international politics is a long way removed from some haute couture fashion show where Trudeau would be more at home.

Not sure what you are alluding to here. Trump is not a globalist stooge like Trudeau is and 44 certainly was. Trump is acting in the US's best interests or at least he believes he is. The rest of the world can take care of themselves, not Trump's responsibility. For sure he will be taking advice from experts like Bannon, but for the end decision, that will be purely Trump. This is the beauty of Trump. Anyone that has been paying attention knows he is not a career politician, and is not a globalist puppet. The ever dizzying rhetoric from globalist media outposts confirms this.

True, unlike Trump, Young Justine hasn't gone bankrupt 4x or lost $1b in a single decade.

LIke the last time they met for negotiations? That male lion may have been huge but it turned out he was toothless.

How does it make any sense to sign a trade agreement yet still have tariffs in place to close a deal?

The fact is that Canada wouldn't ratify the trade agreement with the new tariffs in place. Meaning that there was really no trade deal in place yet.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-05/canada-won-t-ratify-usmca-trade-deal-if-metals-tariffs-in-place

Will that finally close the deal in Parliament or will Trump then add more concessions from Canada feeling he's on a winning streak?

Same applies to Mexico.

Mexico also won't ratify the new NAFTA deal.  Mexico is prepared to keep the status quo with the 25-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement. https://canada.autonews.com/trade-and-tariffs/mexico-wont-ratify-new-nafta-us-metal-tariffs-place

Of course also still to be done is U.S. Congressional review of the US-Can-Mex deal for ratification. Trump has yet to consult with the majority House Democrats, so who knows what the final agreement will contain?

Yuge.

Toothless, aging lion seems lost.

The lion lifted the tariffs...not sure who was toyed with or played?

Trump lifts steel and aluminum tariffs on Mexico and Canada

But now Canada and Mexico will get a reprieve, as the US has reached a deal to lift tariffs on steel and aluminum coming from those two countries. This eliminates a huge hurdle to the ratification of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the revised version of NAFTA.
