Spooky! Bangkok security guard "dead for four days" was fine just the day before!

Thai netizens were widely sharing a story convinced it proved their belief in ghosts and the supernatural.

And with two solid witnesses was it any wonder people were so sure.

One had brought the "dead man" fish and ice cream and had even had a chat.

While another had seen him as right as rain sitting outside the flats.

All the time he was dead and rotting in his room.

Police Captain Prayoon Withaya of the Ratburana constabulary was first on the scene with the Poh Teck Tung rescue services on Sunday.

They determined that 64 year old Thanee Sangthong - a Songkhla man and the head of the security detail at the flats - had been dead three to four days.

Advanced composition had set in and the corpse was emitting pungent odors.

However, the testimony of 67 year old Wandee Chuchote, a close friend of the deceased who found the body surprised everyone.

She said that on Saturday at 3 pm she had fried three fish and prepared ice-cream for her friend's meal.

She went to his door and had a chat with him. It was strange because he was sitting on his knees looking down at something and would not look up when she addressed him.

She said: "Why don't you look at me when I'm talking to you?"

He replied: "I'm busy".

She couldn't tell what was occupying him in his lap so she left his dinner by the door and went back to her room.

She didn't think anything of her encounter with her friend.

On Sunday she went again and found the room locked from the inside. There was no answer to her knocks so she got a spare key from the neighbor in the next room and they went in the room together.

They were shocked - it was obvious that Thanee had been dead for many days.

"I was thoroughly perplexed" (ngong) she told reporters. "The hair on the back of my neck went up, I can tell you. I was talking to him just yesterday".

Meanwhile, another person in the block - 23 year old financial services employee Napdeuan Yimcheun - said that she had seen Thanee fine and well sitting outside the flats on Saturday.

The victim was known to suffer from heart disease.

Poh Teck Tung took the body to Sirirat Hospital for autopsy.

While 1,600 people shared the mysterious goings on online convinced that this proved once and for all what most Thais accept......

That there is more to this life than some skeptics think.

The most probable reason is that the unusual hot temperatures made his body decompose quicker than normal

For the non-believers, I saw a ghost sitting on a tree last night who gave me the next lottery numbers! I'll be rich soon!

I never realized how superstitious Thais are until I moved here 15 years ago. And I have three close Thai friends and they all believe in ghosts and occasionally see them at night. I have no idea why I do not see ghosts but I am thinking I am not normal.

Welcome to the walking brain dead.

Improved education might help to counter supernatural beliefs and poor judgement, but only to a certain extent. When money is involved, like winning on lottery, fall for romance scams and Ponzi schemes, stupidity doesn't seem to have any limits.

So did this ghost eat his fish and ice cream?

She needs to open one of those poncy restaurants offering combo's like that ..

You don't have a ghost of a chance of winning. I got my mine from the horoscopes.

perhaps he overdosed on viagra, which could explain the accelerated stiffness ??

Was it the fried fish or ice cream that did him in she may now wonder????

Ghosts are embedded in the culture here.

Half the movies from here have ghost stories in them.

They build spirt shrines to scare them away from new houses.

Ghost stories were also common place in certain western countries many many years ago.....but education, realism and independent and analytical thoughts helped dispell those myths.

Will Thailand follow suit? Not for a very very long time.

i was chatting to a friend's child the other day, she told me she was unhappy, i asked why and it was because her parents had been telling her ghost stories at night and making her scared. the parents, sadly, think it's funny.

Ooo Hooo! Good  question.

But  just to add a little conspiracy theory perhaps the  person sitting contemplating  whatever  was actually an assassin who did  not look up for fear  of  non recognition? And... probably  bolted down the food for two reasons: 1 being  hungry  while holed up while waiting to escape. @ being to provide  false evidence the victim still lived.

Consider any witness who could provide irrefutable evidence the  Security Guard  sighted  sitting on duty  was actually the same man and not  someone who looked the same to indifferent observers.

Damn !  Have i just  given away a B grade  movie script  or a Blockbuster ?

Regardless, it is  sad that the man died and there is more interest in the ghostly than that it seems he died several days before  anybody  cared  to discover  the  cause for his absence!

RIP  Pee Thanee.

That’s it pull the person in who gave him fish and ice cream no one does that with out murderous intent.

But why he ate it bloody well beats me.

Just like the shrines on the road sides where if you don't honk or wai the spirit he will make you wreck.
