Extension of stay transfer to a passport of different country

Featured Replies

Currently I am using my French passport for my extensions of stay as my original "Non O/A" visa had been granted in Paris. My Australian passport will be up for renewal in 2012. So I'd like to know if I could transfer my extensions to the new Australian passport once I get it renewed.

No

You extension cannot be transferred from a passport from one country to one from another country.

If you want to change passports you would have to start all over again by leaving the country get to a non-o visa and then an extension of stay using it.

Purely out of interest, any idea what the process would be to amend/reissue a work permit in that situation? Let's say the WP holder was getting annual non-B/non-O 1-year multiple-entry visas, just to take extensions out of the equation.

Not sure but I think a new work permit would need to be issued since you would be changing your nationality and passport number.

I would add as well that if you were ever considering PR/Citizenship then this would constitute a change and the 3 (I think) year clock would be reset to zero?
