A story that went viral on Thai social media had some very Thai twists and turns. It was initially claimed that a navy officer kicked a car because he didn't like its licence plate.

It started when a young naval officer in a Toyota Vios was caught on a video honking his horn continually at a white Honda Jazz that was ahead of him.

He then got out of his vehicle in the traffic of Sai 3 Phuttamonthon west of Bangkok and aimed a kick at the back of the offending car.

he then got back in his own vehicle and attempted to get away as the female driver of the Jazz - a beautician called Sunawaree Indip, 32 - and her boyfriend remonstrated with him.

The Thai media were soon on the case but the navy guy refused to speak. Hounded by reporters who wanted to know why he had kicked out at the car he would say nothing as he was ushered by police into the Saladaeng  station.

The registration plate was 1กญ (gor yor) 5331. The one, five and other one were obscured and lighter in color that the other numbers and letters.

This only added to the mystery.

All three of those involved ended up being fined by the police for creating a public disturbance.

The lady was additionally fined for using stickers to obscure aspects of her licence plate.

Sunawaree and the naval officer did not press other charges against each other and wanted the matter to rest.

Sunaree said after the police interview that the navy guy got a bit cross.

His father told Daily News that his son was a firm believer in moral scruples and fate.

He thinks his son may have had a problem with the "Jazz" in a previous life.

Thaivisa notes that much of the story can be "explained" by several factors - it was on video, the man was in the military, the lady was good looking and it probably concerned some mystic beliefs.
