CHONBURI, 31 May 2019 (NNT) - Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi has welcomed their newest member, a cute baby koala, celebrating the zoo’s 41st anniversary on 1 June this year.

A baby koala was born to a 9-year-old mother "Prongdong," in Khao Kheow Open Zoo from natural reproduction with a 12-year-old male koala "Ken." The baby koala which has been hiding in the mother’s pouch has emerged outside, showing its cuteness. The zoo’s staff are still unable to determine the sex of the cub as the mother still refuses to let any human comes close by, while the baby koala seems healthy from observation.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo Director Attaporn Srihaeran said the mother koala has given birth to her baby, and has kept the baby inside her pouch for 7 months, before the baby emerged to the world outside, but still attached to the mother. The baby koala once reaching 1 year old will learn to be independent from the mother.

The general public can observe the adorable baby koala at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi. Special events celebrating the zoo’s 41st anniversary will be held this long weekend on 1-3 June, with games and special prizes given to visitors.

A nine year old mother; a twelve year old father?    The baby, once reaching 1 year old will learn to be independent from the mother.  The father is nowhere to be seen.

Is this a metaphor for Thailand?

Baby bear; cub. Baby koala; joey. KOALAS ARE NOT BEARS. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

This is the only zoo worth visiting in LOS. They at least take care of the animals and the surroundings are very pleasant.  The electric cars are a rip off, but you can take your own car into the park. Worth a visit if you are nearby.

Drop Bears :)??

But you are correct they are not bears

Hope they have another genetically different one for it to eventually breed with.

They are endangered species in some parts of Australia due to urban sprawl
