BANGKOK, 31 May 2019 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has expressed confidence that Thailand’s ranking in world competitiveness which has moved up five notches to 25th will continue to rise. He has assigned the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council to take positive measures for the raising of values in industrial and agricultural sectors. Thailand’s competitiveness is expected to rank no lower than 20th next year.

The deputy premier assigned policy for executive officials of the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council to set guidelines for the International Institute for Management Development of Switzerland’s ranking of the country’s competitiveness, following its five-notch move to rank 25th up from 30th, above South Korea’s 26th, and above Malaysia’s unchanged ranking for 2019.

The deputy premier instructed the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council to restructure the strategy for the steering of the national economy and promotion of public and private investment projects.

The agricultural and tourism sectors will also be strengthened with the making of secondary provinces as new tourist destinations. That calls for the accelerated construction of high speed railways, motorways and roads for the improved conveniences of Thai and foreign travelers. Given such major transport improvements, Thailand’s competitiveness is expected to rank no lower than 20th within next year.

What kind of ridiculous ranking systems can bring a country to the top just for building roads and railway ? Also Govt seems to focus on the ranking without a care for reality.

Don't worry, Somkid - the agencies and departments here are great at making stuff up.

Nothing to do with ranking. It's all about keeping the trough topped up.

Does this ranking really mean anything in the real world?

Should all Thais celebrate and be proud of this marvelous achievement.

It's pretty "rank" already!
