HI all

I have a 30 visa exempt from Tachilek  (Chaing Rai Northern Thailand) in my passport that takes me up to 8th June 2019 (This coming Saturday) I was told at immigration that I could go there  on the 8th June 2019  (or before) and get a 30 day extension which would take me up to Sat 6th july 2019 (they always knock of 2 days and Yes I know it is a Saturday so I would go before this) ok no problem so far

But when I told them I have a flight booked back to the UK on the 9th July  (I booked this at the beginning of the year ) and the 30 day extension would only take me up to the 6th July which would be 3 days short of the 9th July 2019 of having no visa, before I fly back to the UK for my Annual Holiday, they suggested I go back and get a 7 day extension 1900 Bht

Seems a bit odd as I would be getting an extension of 7 days on a 30 day extension that I already have.

My question is.

Is this possible (a  7 day extension on a 30 day extension)

Regards

You can apply for a extension, pay 1900 baht and then be granted 7 days to leave the country after the application is denied.

Thanks Ubonjoe.

Just to sum up and then

after my current 30 day visa exempt runs out, then go back  get a 30 day extension, then when that is finishes go back and pay 1900bht to get another 7 day extension.

Yes but it is not really a 7 day extension. You get 7 days to leave the country.

Which office, and why do they “always knock off 2 days”?

Regardless of when you apply they should give you 30 days: June 9th would be day 1 taking you to July 8th (day 30).

I said 2 days because i imagined (Rightly or wrongly) May 10 to June the 10th would be 30 days but June the 8th would have been 2 days less

That would be one month. May is a 31 day month so you have factor that in. You got 30 days that included the date you entered the country.

I see, i wrongly assumed that the 11th May was the 1st day of the 30 Days but did not realise the 1st day of entering was the 1st day of the 30 days (if that makes sense)

Regards'

and thanks for clearing it up

A common misconception.

If you are leaving from either of the Bangkok airports they do not charge for an overstay of less than 24 hours. Your extension should take you to midnight on the 8th so you won't have any problem leaving on the 9th without the need for paying 1,900 baht to get 7 days to leave the country.
