Sontirat says policies more important than cabinet seat allocations

The Palang Pracharat party will hold talks with its coalition partners on government formation, but will attach more importance to the implementation of key policies of all the coalition parties than the share out of cabinet seats, said party secretary-general Sontirat Sontijirawong today.

Sontirat, who was assigned by the party to head a working group to draft the government’s policy and to renegotiate with the Democrat and Bhumjaithai parties, said he was optimistic that a solution would be worked out to the satisfaction of all parties concerned.

He maintained that the primary mission of the new government would be to implement key policies, such as the state welfare card program, farm subsidies, price guarantees for agricultural produce and land reform among others, which were promised to the people during the election campaign.

Good luck with that approach. The primary concern for the coalition members is their place at the trough, then giving passing interest in that foreign word policy.

Renogotiate? So soon? So I guess they will promise that they can obtain as much revenue as they would get being in control of those ministries..

For once deceiv'd, was his; but twice, were mine..

As I think the parties were promised cabinet posts to join the coalition, I would have thought their policies would have been put forward and discussed before promising the positions ?

Is it just me, or does that sound like a list of populist policies that were supposed to be illegal under the new "constitution" ??

Edit, does that photo look like a slap is needed too ????

Renegotiate to belittle them and then if that does work inform them Prayuth will assign who gets what and that is not an idle threat.

land reform

Are they going to allow the few remaining retirees to own their own house?  Too many lawyers; auditors; judges; wives; agents would howl Lieland to its knees.

Thought I was reading a list of Thaksins old political promises that has sent his sister into exile. Surely a little effort to remove the need for state welfare should be on the cards. They didn't settle for stealing power, they've stolen the ideas as well, and they are not even good ones.

I find it absolutely incredible, that an election has been held, seats either won or allocated over several weeks, and only now are the junta party deciding on policies! What was their election platform? Did they even produce a manifesto? Or did the Thai populous just vote for the colour of the shirt?

It's a statement by a spin-doctor practising his back-pedalling technique.

Tomorrow he will remind us that 'gullible' has been removed from the dictionary.
