We are looking at travelling to Thailand from Australia, however I need to obtain guidance on the 'Persons not to enter the Kingdom' ruling.

Does an old conviction of possession of illegal drug (was personal marijuana - not considered dealing) get noted on the blacklist or reported at immigration/customs?

Does any one know the specifics on convictions recorded? There was no imprisonment.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can not say 100% but i absolute doubt Thailand will have any of your details.

People on the run for far greater things hide out in Thailand and peole with much worse convictions than your have no problem entering and living there.

I know guys here from Denmark who are receiving funds from the Danish government to help rehabilitate them from a major drug habit and they have been allowed to live here long term. s long as they and you don't do drugs here then I don't see any problems myself. As far as I am aware, tourists don't get screened for previous criminal offences because if they did, Pattaya would be empty of foreigners :o

I assume you will be entering on a 30 waiver of visa, so there will be no problems. They don't ask and they can't check.

For UK citizens convictions with a non custodial sentence are generally spent after 5 years anyway.

How relevant this is today I don't know, however, I knew a guy who got busted for a bit of grass

around Sukhumvit eleven years ago.

Wasn't jailed but had to report to the BIB daily until his court date which was quite prompt.

Pled guilty and was fined and it was a small fine.

Didn't have to leave the country.

Another guy was caught smoking a joint in the Nana Hotel toilets - cost him 50,000 Baht for everyone to 'forget' it.

(Exchange rate was about 36-39 to the pound if I recollect correctly).

It was suggested that he left the country, which he prmptly did. (Came back though).

ETA - the conviction was for weed in Australia not Thailand. We have never been to Thailand previously.

So to go thru immigration, you fill your card in that you receive on the airplane, hand that over with your passport and you get an entry stamp. Providing there is no reason for them to be suspicious of you, you should go straight thru?

Thanks
