US 'concerned by harassment of citizens'

Featured Replies

The US said on Monday that it is "concerned by the Cambodian government’s ongoing practice of using baseless, politically motivated charges to harass its citizens, including the recent arrests of several people peacefully remembering the life of Kem Ley".

“All Cambodians should be able to exercise their rights to express their views freely and assemble peacefully.

The statement was blasted by ruling Cambodian People's Party spokesperson Sok Eysan, who said there were no restrictions placed on the freedom of expression in the Kingdom.

I am not familiar with Cambodian law on the right to protest, but the usual rule is that the host country has laws, and guests in that country are obliged to respect the laws and not to break them.

The US ambassador or whomever from the US said these words is wrong....if Cambodian law does not allow people to exercise their rights to express their views and assemble peacefully, then the Cambodians are not harassing people who break the law.

Why does America think it makes the laws for every country on the planet....if it want's to sort out human rights invade Saudi Arabia.

Yes, but only if they never came to Thailand.  If they lived here before—they’d be appalled at the Baht price today.

HUH:
they will be happy as most things cost more in Cambodia...and everything that takes one day here, takes 2-3 weeks to do there
