I was shocked also!

This is a new build house and aside from the aesthetics of it, it just struck me as laziness and penny pinching for the sake of 1m.

A little research tells me that the 2" electric conduit is actually heavier and thicker than blue plastic however I also read that ingredients that go into making conduit are toxic and not suitable for eau potable.

What are your thoughts on this plumbing standard?

A common sight where skill hats are handed out in the morning and in this case someone got to be the plumber for a day.

They cheated you on several levels. You want the larger size 13.5 Blue PVC pipe, or black HDPE pipe with a blue stripe pipe to your home. Never yellow and never 1/2" pipe if you can help it. Not every water meter needs to be 1/2".  It is easy and inexpensive for the PWA to sell you a larger capacity water meter.   3/4" or 1" water meters are legal and only a one time extra fee to have installed by the PWA.

To be clear David no one has cheated me, infact if I came home to see that on my house, I would have been straight in the toolshed to find the hacksaw, with discussing it with anyone.

My next move would be to give him the "d.c.m"

But you are right a larger private service of 3/4" certainly helps on flow and all that gunge build up on the inside.

You can get 3/4" and 1" water meters from Global or Thaiwatsa around 500/800bt

If you have PWA water service you must buy the meter from the utility. The meters you see on sale at a store are often for use at a rental property where the tenant is paying the landlord a marked up fee for water service. Some village headmen do buy water meters at shops for "village" water systems.  The water meters I see for sale are 15mm | 20mm | 25mm and larger. Eyecatcher, I never thought of the benefit of the larger water pipes when it comes to gunk that is inside a pipe prior to a water filter.
