Driver flees after crash kills Chinese on Kulen mountain

Featured Replies

Police in Siem Reap province’s Svay Loeu district are looking to arrest the driver of a van that overturned on Kulen Mountain on Sunday, killing two Chinese nationals and injuring 11 others. Police are also looking for a tour guide, who also fled the scene.

Lieutenant Colonel Soun Thai, deputy chief of Svay Loeu district, yesterday said that the driver is suspected of causing the accident. “The driver and the tour guide fled the scene,” Lt Col Thai said. “We do not know if the tour guide is Chinese or Khmer because he fled the scene along with the driver.”

Lt Col Thai said that the van was transporting 13 Chinese tourists when it overturned on Kulen mountain, as the van was going downhill at about 12.40pm on Sunday. “Chinese tourists were injured, and two of them died on the way to the provincial hospital,” Lt Col Thai said. “The others are being treated in hospital.”
