Non B denied at Vientiane

Featured Replies

I am currently in Vientiane, Laos and have been denied a non b visa from the thai consulate here - due to the fact I have no copies of previous work permits.

A) Can I come back as a tourist on a 30 day visa exempt entry on an Irish passport or should I apply for a single entry tourist visa (SETV)?

B) If I will apply for a SETV I will need to make a new online booking - can I do this for 4 days from now? Because my application was denied will they allow me to apply for a different visa so soon?

C) Will the land border at Nong Khai be any trouble? Do they enforce requirements for onward ticket etc

D) I understand that there is a 2 per year limit on land border crossings. Do extensions count in that? I did a land border crossing in Dec 2018 and extended it Jan 2019.

E) If I do get back to Thailand - what are the chances of a successful application for Non B in Chaeng Wattana again?

My recent history in Thailand:

October 2018 - flew in from Ireland on 60 day tourist visa

December 2018 - border run to Myanmar 30 day stamp

Jan 2019 - 30 day extension

Feb 2019 - 90 day Non B from Vientiane

May 2019  -  border run to Myanmar 30 day stamp

Late May 2019 - Non B from Chaeng Wattana

No problem at all for any of this. No officials have asked any questions.

Any help/advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a valid work permit now? Or did you only have a work permit approval letter.

Vientiane has a rule that you can only get one non-b visa per calendar year unless you have a valid work permit to show.

A. You can enter on a visa exempt entry since you have only done one this year at a land border crossing. If you do one now you will not be able to do another one until next year.

B. You would have to make a new appointment to get a tourist visa.

C. You should not have any problem. No need to show a ticket out of the country.

D. An extension does not count as a entry.

E. You may have a problem applying for another visa at immigration. The visas they issue are done so that you can apply for a extension of the 90 day entry from them not to stay in the country for 90 days.

You shouldn't have a problem using VE at Nong Khai. They are highly unlikely to ask for anything.

Yes, you can make another visa application. You might want to try one of the 'agents' that hang around outside the 'embassy'. They might be able to get you a quicker appointment slot.

No they don't.

Why didn't you apply for an extension of stay from your last Non B application/visa?

Thank you for the all information.

I have not had a valid work permit as I changed employer so they cancelled the application.

That is why I had to leave to cancel my current non b and apply for a new one as I am applying under a new employer.

I will try VE at Nong Khai and see what my best options are from there then when I get back to Bangkok.

Thanks again

Trying to enter visa-exempt after previously working in the country is extremely likely to result in being refused entry, there have been many similar instances on this site alone about such a situation.

Not all that many and they were at a airport. The OP is entering at a land border crossing.
