Cambodia’s population reached 15,288,489 as of March 3, 2019, a 14.1 percent increase over 11 years since 2008, according to a preliminary census result. The census result released today said that the population has grown by 1,892,807 people from 13,395,682 in 2008.

“The male population is 7,418,577 (48.5 percent) and the female population stands at 7,869,912 (51.5 percent)”, it said. It said that Phnom Penh has the highest population of 2,129,371 (13.9 percent), followed by neighbouring Kandal province with 1,195,547 (7.8 percent), Prey Veng with 1,057,428 (6.9 percent), Siem Reap with 1,006,512 (6.6 percent), and Kep has the lowest population of 41,798 (0.3 percent).

Planning Minister Chhay Than said that the census showed the government’s achievements and provided concrete evidence to evaluate strategic development plans in the future. “I am delighted to see a great success in this 2019 Population Census, which provides reliable data  to the government, development partners and the public for use to prepare effective policies”, Mr Than said.
