A few other things you may want to try to increase your metabolism like sex or exercise. Much more natural than ingesting large amounts of coconut oil. If the coconut oil does increase your metabolism it may be from the sudden urgent dashes to the toilet.

I'm not convinced. I'd have coconut oil, milk or whatever in anything, especially curries, but a few years of ingesting it in Indonesian and Timorese cooking haven't helped my waistline. (Or maybe it was the Bintang?)

"Initial trials have confirmed that coconut oil does have an anti-viral effect and can beneficially reduce the viral load of HIV patients", says Dr. Conrato S. Dayrit, Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology, University of the Philippines.
Oh Dear :o !

Using Google the following hits result from the following searches:

  1. aids "coconut oil" - 524,000

  2. hair "coconut oil" - 786,000

  3. metabolism "coconut oil" - 235,000

It seems the consensus of the internet world is that coconut oil is best rubbed into your hair.

All the good properties are for "Virgin cold pressed coconut oil".

The coconut oil you can buy on the market or in the store has been through too many processes to be healthy at all.

The phillipines are known for the "good" coconut products. Thailand is way behind this lucrative market.

The best way to loose weight with coconut oil is to pick the coconuts, cut them and press the oil out yourself. That process alone burns enough fat (I speak from experience :o ).

The US soybean oil industry has spent millions trying to convince people not to use tropical oils. In packaged foods hydrogenated oils are the usual replacement for tropical oils, and most nutritionists seem to agree they're worse for you than coconut and palm oils, which don't need hydrogenation for shelf life/texture.
