We 2 persons plan to go this route in couple of weeks. Unfortunately, all info i got from internet are out of date (it seems this route not much popular to travelers). I'm trying to find direct bus from Phnom Penh to Pailin (or to the best, to Phsar Prum) but none available. 

Anyone here has any update?

You can get share taxi and ptobaly bus to Pailin. From Pailin need to get another moto or car taxi to the border.

easier to get bus to Battambang,  (5 Hours) than transfer to shared taxi to Palin/border, (60-75 minutes )

Most buses to Battambang stop at terminal north of town then have a mini bus to downtown . Taxis leave a couple of blocks away. You should be able to rent a taxi for $38.

Otherwise wait can be long for a full passenger load. The front passenger seat is two seats.

I have been told there is a bus for $6 one trip daily. Never seen it
