There are 10 rich MPs, who have over one billion baht in assets each, while the poorest MP has 5,064 baht in his bank account, according to reports from the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Of the 10 billionaire MPs, Mrs. Nathee Ratchakitprakarn, a party-list MP of the Bhumjaithai Party, the spouse of Tourism and Sports Minister Pipat, is the richest, with declared assets worth about 4.675 billion baht.

The other nine billionaire MPs are:

Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul Bhumjaithai party leader, deputy prime minister and public health minister, 4.249 billion baht (his assets include two planes, two motor boats, 24 Buddha images worth 121 million baht and 395 million baht in bank deposits)

Do the really rich donate their salaries to charity, not connected to them?

Is there a conflict of interest of one person being anMP and the spouse of a government minister?

The billionaires know how to run the country for their benefit the undeclared billionaires know how to hide behind the dead????

  • Popular Post

Yes, its a worldwide phenomena, but the people who sit in government really have no idea how the average citizens lives and scratches away to survive on what these people consider a proper wage. How can we continue to let the unbelievably rich make decisions for the undeniably poor? Once in power they do all they can to add to that total regardless that 14 million are receiving govt handouts for being so poor.

Are investigative journalists now digging into how these super rich became incredibly wealthy?

I thought not.

I love to see interviews with these rich people in politics: Why do you do this job? Because you want to make Thailand better and you think your are qualified to do that? Or are there any other reasons?

Does the Prime minister and those close to him have to declare their assets?

I note the PM's name is conspicuously absent.  US$4.06 million in 2014.

Natee Ratchakitprakan

The poorest and the richest MPs both belong to the Bhumjai Thai Party, according to an announcement by the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

The NACC on Thursday posted debt and asset statements of 414 MPs that were reported to the anti-graft body as required by the constitution.

According to announcement by the NACC, 10 MPs informed the NACC that they have assets higher than Bt1 billion – nine are coalition MPs and one opposition MP. They are:

1 - Natee Ratchakitprakan, Bhumjai Thai party-list MP and wife of Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakan. She informed the NACC that she has Bt4.674 billion in assets broken down as Bt71.597 billion of her own assets and Bt4.6 billion in assets belonging to her husband. The two have debts of Bt177 billion.

2 - Bhumjai Thai party-list MP Anutin Charnvirakul, deputy prime minister and public health minister. He declared to the NACC that he has Bt4.248 billion of assets and debt of Bt50.255 billion. His assets include two planes worth Bt160 million and two boats worth Bt32.5 million.

3 - Phalang Pracharat party-list MP Suriya Juangroongruangkit, industry minister. He announced he has assets worth Bt2.198 billion.

4 - Democrat party-list MP Apichai Techa-ubol. He has assets worth Bt2.048 billion.

5 - Phalang Pracharat party-list MP Nataphol Teepsuwan, education minister. He has Bt1.984 billion worth of assets.

6 - Democrat party-list MP Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich, deputy education minister. She has assets worth Bt1.784 billion.

7 - Bhumjai Thai party-list MP Supamas Issaraphakdee. She has Bt1.6 billion worth of assets.

8 - Kittisak Kanasawat, Mahasarakham MP of opposition Pheu Thai Party. He has assets worth Bt1.529 billion.

9 - Democrat party-list MP Korn Chatikavanij. He has assets worth Bt1.09 billion worth of assets.

10 - Chart Pattana party-list MP Thewan Liptapanlop. He declared he has Bt1.03 billion worth of assets.

Phisanu Polthee, Bhumjai Thai MP from Pathum Thani, declared that he has only Bt5,064 in his Kasikorn bank account as his only assets. He declared that he stays with his mother and he is borrowing a car from his friend to use.

Another interesting declaration was made by Thammanas Phromphao, deputy agriculture minister and Phalang Prachrat’s MP for Phayao. He declared the assets of two wives and became the first political officer holder to declare assets of more than one wife. The new anti-graft law requires political office holders to declare assets of spouses with whom they have not registered marriage legally as well.

Thammanas declared that he and two wives have assets worth Bt859 million and debt of Bt79.26 million. His own assets are Bt644.92 million worth, his first wife, Arisara Phromphao has B189.95 million worth of assets and his second wife, Thanaporn Sriwilart has assets worth Bt63.68 million.

Absolutely. These billionaires should be required to declare how they got their riches.

I think they should lead the Finance Ministry and Commerce Ministry respectively

...and to the reporter; check your "b" and "m", they are fairly close together on the keyboard.

Its irrelevant how much money they have in their bank accounts.  The deals are all made with relatives, their bank accounts, their numerous linked companies.  Spouses, sons, daughters, nephews, brothers.  Their actual bank accounts are meaningless.

That's why the THB will stay high. Good for all these rich people,

It's the same in western governments...the UK's house of commons and house of lords contain some very very wealthy politicians and lords...and just look at the US...super wealthy politicians...the world is a cesspit of corruption.

missing word

It would be very interesting to know the total assets of Prayut and Prawit, which are not mentioned..

And how much are the current MP's earning as parliamentarians in the Prayut 2 camp?

Are you insinuating that Prayut and Prawit are just common MP's ????.

"She informed the NACC that she has Bt4.674 billion in assets broken down as Bt71.597 billion of her own assets and Bt4.6 billion in assets belonging to her husband. The two have debts of Bt177 billion."

Exactly, not only Thailand, politicians in general are a bunch of self serving parasites with little interest in helping the people of their country.

I thought not.

No need for investigative journalist, in the main it comes from dodgy dealings, graft, government support, etc. However, in fairness, in a very small minority it's probably from prior family wealth, astute business smarts and some good luck.

No, because most of them work for the super-rich bosses the half dozen corporations which control the mass media.

Not only that, but search engines like Google are manipulating data to ensure we can only access information they consider relevant or appropriate.

The results can sometimes be as hilarious as they are frustrating. If you don't believe me, try doing a Google image search for "White Couples"!

I'm no great economist but why not pay off your debt rather than pay interest on what you owe ? It's  not like he'll go negative !
