Hi all,

Can I ask a few questions that I cannot seem to get my head around. :D

Q1) For retirement I would have to Start with 90 day Non Immigrant O. I presume I get this in the UK because "I am exploring retirement".

Q2) After 2 months have passed on the 90 day visa go back to your local Thai Immigration with: Letter from Bank stating 800,000+ (which has been in place more than 3 months).

Now this is the bit that I can never understand " how do I show a letter from the bank saying "Money in bank 90 days" when I have only been there for just more than 2 months. (how is this done).

Q3) After the 12 months extension runs out, do I have to leave the country for another non imm O and start again?

Q4) Penultimate question, if I leave the Baht 800,000 in the bank (forever) will this do or do I take it out and 3 months before renewal put it back into the bank (or show money coming and going from the account). :D

Q5) Finally, would it be possible for someone to write a Dummy’s Guide to retiring in LOS.

If possible it would start with, Step (1) Go to Thai Consulate/Embassy in your country, take documents (?).

It would finish with, Step (?) the procedure for renewing the 12 month extension are (this I am not sure of) Leave Thailand, go to nearest Thai embassy (see forum for details) for Imm O) (OR) go to your nearest immigration office for renewal taking with you (documents).

Any other method should be written separately to avoid confusion (mine :o ), and people could use the method most suitable to them.

BTW, I want to live near Nong Khai with my girlfriend so if there is another way of getting this visa other than going to the Embassy in the UK I can do it that way.

I hope you can help with these questions (and the Dummy’s guide would help me). :D

Thanks for any help :D

1. Or you convert a tourist visa entry into a non immigrant visa at any immigration office when you have met the 800k or 65k requirement. If you want to avoid the 2,000 baht conversion fee it would be best to obtain a multi entry non immigrant visa to allow your funds to age.

2. With between 3 and 4 weeks remaining on any 90 day entry to do the deed.

3. You repeat your visit to immigration each year to renew. No need for new visa or exit. Any exit must have a re-entry permit issued first to keep an extension of stay alive.

4. No need to take money out of account - but be sure to have it back up to required level 3 months prior to your next renewal application (3-4 weeks before expiration of stay).

5. Each Consulate is a little different in what they require. But the main thing is that a non immigrant O-A visa issued in your home country does not require money in a Thai bank account - the money is in your home country account to obtain this visa and there is no 90 day wait required - but a police report and medical would be. Check your Consulate for full information.
